Chapter 1357 Begging for Help in Desperation

Jason watched as Lawrence carried Tessa upstairs, with Cora following closely behind.

Halfway up the stairs, she turned back to call out to him. "Darling, won't you come up and check on her too?"

Jason's expression remained cold. Though in his fifties, his eyes held a glacial, desolate look. "No need."

Cora stood alone, uncertain what to do next.

She asked, "Have I done something wrong? You seem increasingly distant lately."

"Octavia."

"Darling, who's Octavia?"

Confusion washed over Cora's face, which suddenly turned pale.

Then it dawned on her – Octavia was her sister's name.

"Surely you don't still have feelings for Octavia? Didn't she run off with some struggling writer? Darling, when you were young, you made your affection for her public, thinking that would win her over. But the Smiths saw through her, knew she wasn't worthy of your love. That's why they arranged our marriage. Her rejecting you only showed her poor judgment." Cora moved closer, her face full of sincerity. "Darling, didn't we agree never to mention this again?"

Jason gently patted her head in a gesture of reassurance.

Her acting was impeccable – he couldn't detect the slightest flaw.

If this was indeed acting, her skill was masterful beyond measure.

Despite his years of experience, Jason found nothing artificial in her expression or demeanor.

Unless Cora herself believed what she was saying.

His brow furrowed in contemplation.

Upstairs, Tessa was sobbing in Lawrence's arms.

Her voice trembled, "Lawrence, please don't meet Victor. He's dangerous. I'm begging you – if you see him, I'll stop taking my medication."

Terror filled Tessa's eyes. She absolutely could not lose her status as the Smith daughter.

Damn Selena to hell!

She needed Selena dead!

Taking a deep breath, she heard her phone vibrate. A new message appeared: [Victor and Selena are in these two cars. Here are the license plates.]

Tessa didn't know who was sending her these messages, but she desperately wanted both cars to crash.

She clutched Lawrence's arm. "Lawrence, didn't you promise to help me against Selena? Raymond caused me terrible suffering, and Selena should pay for it. She's in this car now, and her people are in the other one. Use your influence to target these cars – make them crash."

Lawrence remained silent, apparently hesitating.

Tessa rolled off the bed and dropped to her knees.

He startled. "Tessa, what are you doing?"

"I'm begging you, if you don't help me, I don't know how I'll manage."

Losing her status as the Smith daughter would be a fate worse than death.

Lawrence sighed in resignation. "I'll help you."

His indulgence of Tessa had never had limits. He always remembered what his mother had told him: Tessa was fragile, his only sister, and her every wish should be granted.

She was the Smith daughter – she had the right to be capricious.

"Lawrence, I knew you'd be there for me!"

Tessa's eyes gleamed with satisfaction as she watched Lawrence take out his phone and instruct his men to carry out the task.

If both Victor and Selena died, no one would ever discover that Selena was the real Smith daughter.

With Jason unable to find his true daughter immediately, he wouldn't move against her, the impostor.

A flicker of triumph crossed her eyes. Having Selena killed by her own brother would be the ultimate revenge against that wretched girl.
