Chapter 1368 Seeing Him Only Turned into a Stubbornness

Raymond lit a cigarette, his tone casual. "Victor, shall we meet?"

Victor laughed on the other end. "Perfect timing. I've been waiting for you to return. I need to discuss something with you."

He turned to Selena beside him. "Selena, weren't you waiting for Raymond? He's on the phone—why don't you talk to him?"

Selena, absorbed in her book, tightened her grip on the pages. She had been mentioning Raymond, yet now found herself uncertain why she wanted to see him. The desire had become mere stubbornness.

She hesitated, "Dr. Barnes, I..."

Victor placed the phone in her hand. "I'll drive you there later. Isn't this what you wanted?"

Raymond, listening to Victor's words, froze mid-drag, his brow furrowing. What game was Victor playing? When he heard Selena's voice, his breathing became cautious. "Selena?"

No response.

Raymond nearly burned his fingers, pressing the phone closer. "Selena?"

After a moment's hesitation, she asked, "Have you eaten yet?"

Raymond paused for several seconds. "Do you remember those days at Christopher's villa?"

He had been blind then, infiltrating to find her. They'd spent every night together.

"Yes," she replied flatly. "What is it, Raymond? Are you coming to find me?"

Raymond remained silent. Perceptive as always, he sensed something was off. Those memories were both sweet and intimate for them. Normally, his mentioning them would make her flustered or even angry at his impropriety.

What had Victor done?

He lowered his eyes. "Yes, I'll come find you."

Selena smiled, asking Victor, "Dr. Barnes, may I meet him?"

Victor's gaze drifted to the window before returning to her. "Of course. I have matters to attend to anyway."

Raymond could hardly believe Victor would actually let her come. He asked for the address, which was promptly sent.

Ending the call, he turned to Richard. "Stay here. This could be dangerous."

Richard raised an eyebrow, confused. "Aren't you just picking up Selena from Victor's? What's dangerous about that? I'm coming with you. I don't feel like returning to the Smith Villa anyway—my father doesn't want to see me, and my mother keeps crying. It's exhausting."

He leaned back casually. "Raymond, we've fought before, but with all these recent troubles, even your annoying face looks somewhat pleasant now."

Raymond frowned, opened the door, and kicked Richard out.

Richard hit the ground, hardly believing Raymond would treat him this way. "Damn it!"

Raymond immediately turned the car around, ignoring Richard's curses. He floored the accelerator, his mind racing through countless scenarios.

However, the meeting place was in the heart of downtown—nobody could deploy anything dangerous with so many witnesses around.

Twenty minutes later, Raymond stood outside the downtown dessert shop. Through the large floor-to-ceiling windows, he saw Selena pushing a coffee toward Victor, softly asking what dessert he'd like.

Victor wore casual clothes instead of his white coat, appearing more approachable without his usual coldness.

From outside, Raymond watched Selena smile at Victor, even offering him food from her own plate.

Victor glanced at her, shaking his head in refusal.

She lowered her fork, disappointed.

The sight pierced Raymond. Selena was always careful with boundaries—she would never be so intimate with another man.

Especially not with someone who was, nominally, Raymond's good friend.
