Chapter 161 Daydreaming

Selena's phone was buzzing in her pocket, and she had no clue who was blowing up her phone tonight. Even though she had it on silent, it just kept ringing.

The ringtone was relentless, like it wouldn't stop until she picked up.

Right now, Selena was cornered by Raymond. She was already brainstorming how to explain herself once he saw her face, hoping he wouldn't blacklist her on the spot.

On a night like this, with the rain pounding outside, the only sound inside was her phone's ringtone.

Selena looked down, ready to pull out her phone. "Mr. Montague, actually, I..."

Before she could finish, another thunderclap boomed outside, but there was no lightning, so the room stayed pitch dark.

The sudden thunder masked her unique voice, so Raymond didn't catch on.

Otherwise, he would've instantly recognized her as his designer.

But right then, all he could hear was the thunder and her phone's ringtone.

Selena had already given up and was thinking about how to apologize.

But just as she pulled her phone out, the screen went completely dark.

This time, it wasn't her turning it off; the battery had died, shutting the phone down.

Selena had rushed out tonight, and after spending the whole previous night at the hospital, she hadn't had a chance to charge her phone. The constant ringing had finally drained the battery.

It was such a coincidence that she felt incredibly lucky. Even now, there was still a chance to turn things around.

Raymond saw the phone shut off too. They were close enough that her scent was familiar, but he couldn't place where he'd smelled it before.

"Mr. Montague, I'm new here. I accidentally broke a bowl and got a bit nervous," Selena said.

So, she had been crouching there suspiciously to pick up the broken pieces.

And she didn't know where the fuse box was because she was new.

"Fiona told us to be very cautious around you. We're all afraid of making mistakes," Selena's voice was low, sounding super anxious.

Raymond frowned and let go of her wrist.

He wasn't used to being close to women; skin contact made him uncomfortable. Grabbing her wrist had been an instinctive move.

After letting go of Selena, he realized he'd been holding on for a full minute.

Raymond rubbed his forehead, wondering if he was being affected by William's constant pressure lately.

"Got it." His tone was still indifferent as he walked out first. "It's dark in here, be careful."

Selena stood still, listening to his footsteps fade away, and finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Once she was sure he had gone upstairs, she slowly made her way up too.

Back in her bedroom, she plugged in her phone and saw that James had called, asking her to take Raymond to The Fair Villa tomorrow night. Apparently, the Fair family was planning a dinner.

This was something he had asked before, but it just annoyed Selena.

Raymond despised her current identity; there was no way he would agree to go.

Thinking about the tense encounter with Raymond just moments ago, it was clear that staying at Ashbourne Manor was no longer an option.

The next morning, Selena didn't go out but waited for Raymond to leave first.

When Fiona came to tell her that Raymond had left, Selena finally felt relieved.

Being under the same roof with him made it hard to breathe.

After breakfast, she went to the back room to check on Max. Max had been confined recently, and his bark was no longer as clear. Selena felt heartbroken.

She needed to move out of Ashbourne Manor quickly; she couldn't let Max suffer.

Fortunately, the house was spacious enough; the presence of just one person and a dog would hardly make it feel crowded.

Max excitedly circled around Selena, wagging his tail so fast it was a blur.

Selena smiled and patted his head, taking him for a walk around Ashbourne Manor before heading to Cornerstone Construction to finalize a series of construction plans and sign the documents.

Since construction was about to start, she had to inform Raymond, the homeowner.

Selena went to the Montague Group in person and ran into the annoying Sofia.

Sofia had just finished a call with Olivia, who had asked her to keep an eye on Raymond, only to see Selena coming to the office on her own.

To Sofia, Selena was clearly using work as an excuse to get close to Raymond.

"Some people are just daydreaming all the time." Sofia looked at Selena disdainfully, slamming the documents on the table.

"They don't even consider their own status. Using those cheap tricks once or twice is enough. Do they really think they can seduce someone?" Sofia continued.

Olivia was coming back soon, and Selena was just a clown.

But Selena clearly hadn't realized her own status, so Sofia felt the need to remind her.
