Chapter 213 We Can't Let That Bitch Get Away With It

He swung the door open and saw Beatrice sprawled on the floor.

"Babe!"

He yelled, rushing over to help her up.

Upstairs, Alice heard the commotion and bolted down the stairs. She froze at the sight, pale and shaking like a leaf.

James was freaking out and, spotting Kenny just standing there, barked, "Call 911 now and help me get her to the hospital!"

"But what about the stock transfer?"

"Seriously? Now's not the time! We'll deal with that later!"

Kenny's eyes twinkled with a sly smile, and he quickly moved to help Beatrice.

"Got it. Don't worry. I already called 911."

They hustled Beatrice and Alice to the hospital, and the stock transfer was forgotten.

Beatrice was faking it. Hearing James's concern, she felt pretty smug.

At the hospital, the doctor checked her out and said, "She's just exhausted and stressed. She needs to rest."

Alice, a frequent flyer at the hospital, was already upstairs getting an IV.

James sat by Beatrice's bed, relieved when she woke up.

"What happened? Where do you feel bad?"

Beatrice put on her best guilty face.

"Babe, I'm sorry. Did I mess up your work? I worry about everything. Now that Selena doesn't like me much, if she joins the company, I don't know if she and Nick will get along. Plus, with Alice's illness, I got so anxious that I..."

She started coughing after she finished talking.

Her words reminded James he hadn't given Nick the shares yet.

And since he gave Selena fifteen percent, she'd have to come back to work at the family company.

The Fair family ran a paint company and had to work with renovation teams, which tied into Selena's current job.

She'd been gaining experience outside, and with the shares, she'd have to come back as a senior exec. She'd definitely run into Nick then.

"Babe, I'm fine. Selena's been working outside for a few years and should come back to work."

Beatrice was playing the long game. She looked so unwell, and the more she pushed James, the guiltier he felt.

"We'll talk about it later. Besides, Selena might not even want to come back. She's been doing her own thing for years and hasn't worked with the Fair family."

Beatrice's plan was working, and she couldn't help but smile, her eyes gleaming with pride.

Just then, James got a call from the office and had to head to a meeting. Worried about leaving Beatrice alone, he asked Kenny to stay with her.

"Let me know right away if anything happens."

Kenny, who was more than ten years younger than James and had been his loyal right-hand man for years, nodded. "Don't worry, Mr. Fair"

James reassured Beatrice a few more times before finally leaving the hospital.

As soon as he was gone, Beatrice signaled Kenny to close the door.

Kenny checked the hallway, then quickly sat on the bed and hugged her.

"You're so smart."

Beatrice smirked. "I've been with him for years; I know how to handle him."

"So what's the plan now? Even after this, he'll still give Selena the shares. We can't let her take over the company."

"We need to find a way to ruin Selena, make James lose faith in her. Nick will help us."

They exchanged a knowing look and started plotting again.

Meanwhile, as James's car passed an intersection, he spotted Selena sitting on a bench.

Selena had just left the police station, feeling completely drained. She found a spot to sit and rest, too tired to drive back to the Rose Garden, her head pounding from all the stress.

James told the driver to stop and rolled down the window himself.

"Selena."

Selena thought she was imagining things. She opened her eyes and saw him, her face blank, and muttered, "Dad."

Sensing the distance between them, James felt a pang of hurt.

"Why are you sitting here? Have you heard about Reid? He's been taken in."

"Did you do it?"

"The Fair family doesn't have that kind of pull. I called William."

Selena, already exhausted, felt even more drained hearing this.

"Selena, get in the car. Don't take this the wrong way, but this is why I wanted you to marry Raymond. What the Fair family or you can't fix, William can handle with one call."

Selena's eyes welled up. James had no idea what really hurt her.

It was that he never asked for her side before scolding her.

It was that he started doubting her after hearing a few words from Beatrice and Alice.
