Chapter 1625 We Will Definitely Kill Him
Selena raised her hand and patted Nina on the shoulder, trying to comfort her.
The two of them collapsed onto the thick grass and fell asleep.
Selena tossed and turned, unable to sleep, but she forced herself to try.
When daylight came, she and Nina ate some cookies and started moving forward.
Nina scouted the terrain, her brow furrowed. "So far, we've only seen bits and pieces of the research base. The whole thing's probably still intact somewhere, but who knows where it ended up. If we had a helicopter, we could spot it easily. If the base had an earthquake defense system, the outer parts might be crushed, but the inner sections could be fine. The people inside are likely knocked out, though."
Selena thought the same. She was praying that Raymond and the others were in the inner sections, hoping they were still alive.
By the afternoon, she had found nothing and was starving.
Suddenly, the sound of a helicopter filled the sky, and she received a call from Richard. "Selena, where are you?"
Selena was surprised at how quickly Richard had arrived.
She quickly gave her location, and soon, a helicopter landed not far from them.
She grabbed Nina and ran towards the helicopter.
Richard stepped out, looking worried. He checked her over from head to toe.
Once he was sure she was okay, he sighed in relief. "You really are reckless. Do you know how much trouble you caused? I've been getting chewed out non-stop."
Not only by Lawrence but also by Raymond.
"Richard, did you get any news?"
"Lawrence sent me to help. More people are coming, and this place has caught the higher-ups' attention. Ralph from Stellaria is here too. He had a deal with Raymond. Raymond promised to destroy the research base in exchange for taking Mario."
So that was the deal Raymond made to take Mario from Stellaria. Now that the base was destroyed, Ralph was here to see the results.
"Does Lawrence sending you mean he and Raymond are still alive?" Selena asked.
Richard frowned, seeing her anxious face, and quickly reassured her. "Yeah, the explosives inside the base made the earthquake worse and caused a landslide. The situation is still unclear. Get on the helicopter first. Who's this?"
He glanced at Nina.
"My friend."
"Alright, both of you get on. I'll have another helicopter come for her. Don't wander around this area. Arcturus has completely abandoned this land. We had to promise to donate a few hospitals to get permission to bring helicopters in."
Otherwise, it could easily spark a conflict between the two countries.
Selena got on the helicopter, which circled in the air before finding the main structure of the research base three miles away.
The structure, about three stories high, was heavily damaged, with many researchers lying around it.
"We're alive, we made it, it's like a dream."
"It's really the blue sky, the sunlight..."
"How did I get here? I feel awful."
There were about a dozen survivors, all in bad shape.
As soon as the helicopter landed, Selena rushed to search among the survivors but didn't see Raymond or Lawrence.
She grabbed one of the more coherent survivors. "Have you seen him?"
She showed a photo of Raymond on her phone.
The man smirked, "Of course, the mouse in our game of cat and mouse."
"What do you mean?"
"We were all the cats. We had to kill him to survive, but he was too good. Number 8 has been hunting him. Number 8 is Dr. Griffin's strongest weapon. It will definitely kill him."
The man's words were disjointed and made little sense to outsiders.
He kept scooping up dirt and sniffing it, his hands trembling. "We're really out. After all these years, we're really out."
The other survivors were also in poor mental condition.
