Chapter 338 Let Him Study Women
Raymond's expression was so calm as if it wasn't his wife's family that was in hot water.
John sighed, looking at Raymond's indifferent face. Fine, he wouldn't bring up the Fair family around Raymond anymore.
John said, "Mr. Raymond Montague, Mr. William Montague has called twice, asking if you've met with Miss Stone."
William was super cautious about Olivia.
Raymond took the contract John handed him and thought William should at least be worried about someone else.
And William knew exactly who that someone else was.
Raymond had meetings all day; if he wasn't in one, he was heading to the next.
Raymond never took his phone into meetings, so he missed calls from William and Olivia earlier.
John said, "Miss Stone also asked you to visit her."
Raymond asked, "How's Olivia doing?"
John said, "It takes a hundred days to heal from those kinds of injuries; she'll probably be in the hospital for a while."
Raymond stared at the contract in front of him, not moving.
After a bit, Raymond asked John, "Why would a woman stay married if her husband keeps cheating on her?"
Raymond was a whiz with algorithms, data, or company losses. But understanding women? Not so much.
His only two sexual experiences were all thanks to Selena; they were fiery and intense.
But she didn't want a divorce. Selena even defended her husband every chance she got.
John didn't expect the conversation to shift so fast and was caught off guard. After a few seconds, he said, "Mr. Montague, I think most women put up with a lot after marriage, especially full-time housewives. Ms. Cooper, though capable, probably hasn't shaken off the traditional marriage constraints. She might think divorce means failure, that a home needs a man. Female independence is a recent thing. Ms. Cooper is independent at work, but maybe not emotionally."
Raymond was always super calm. He hadn't looked into Selena's family because he wasn't sure if his curiosity about her was just physical or something more.
But what else could it be? He didn't know Selena and didn't seem to want to. He was just drawn to her in bed.
In Raymond's world, marriage was just a way to balance the interests of two rich families. At first, there was only physical attraction between two people. When that hit a certain level, it would lead to intellectual attraction, then emotional, and finally, spiritual attraction. Love grew with these attractions.
But right now, Raymond knew he was only at the surface level, so he didn't feel a strong need to understand her.
Still, this shallow attraction was pretty tormenting, though he figured he'd eventually get bored and it would fade away.
For Raymond, it was a low-level pleasure. He should quit while he was ahead. His brow furrowed.
John had been quietly watching him but didn't rush to say anything.
After a long pause, Raymond calmly picked up the pen again. "Make sure the Fair family can't contact Grandpa. If they go bankrupt this time, it's on them."
They fell for such an obvious scam; a company like that was bound to collapse sooner or later. Survival of the fittest; no need for sympathy.
John nodded. "Got it, Mr. Montague."
Selena had been staying at the hospital these past few days. One reason was to keep an eye on James, and the other was to see who Kenny would meet with.
But to her disappointment, no one came to visit Kenny, even though he was lying in the hospital with a bruised face. The only person who occasionally visited him was Beatrice.
However, Beatrice visited James more often, and each time she stood at the doorway, tears streaming down her face.
The nurses came over several times to comfort Beatrice, telling her that James would wake up soon, but then Beatrice seemed to cry even harder.
Selena didn't want to keep listening to Beatrice's crying, so she grabbed her bag and was about to leave.
But as soon as Selena reached the hospital lobby, she ran into Sofia.
Olivia wasn't staying at this hospital; Sofia was only here because she had run into Selena on the way and had been waiting.
"Penny!" Sofia was furious. "Did I get fired because of you?"
Because there were a lot of people around, Sofia's shout drew everyone's attention.
Selena didn't plan to respond to her, but Sofia suddenly pulled a knife out of her bag.
Selena initially intended to open the car door and get in, but seeing the glinting dagger reflected in the car window, she quickly stepped aside.
Sofia's knife immediately struck the car, leaving a large scratch. Her pupils were bloodshot; she had lost all reason. "It's all because of you that Raymond fired me!"
Today, she had just gone to the Montague Group and received a dismissal letter! It was all this bitch's fault!
