Chapter 110 Playing Hard to Get

Selena was worried she might've ticked off Raymond. When she sneezed, she turned a bit, her shoulder shaking slightly.

Since she was soaked from the rain, her face looked even paler, and her hair stuck to her cheeks, with water droplets hanging from her eyelashes.

Plus, Selena was wearing thin clothes that clung to her, showing off her perfect figure.

Selena rubbed her feverish eyes and noticed Raymond's car was still there. She asked politely, "Mr. Montague, were you working late just now?"

Raymond had indeed been working late. There was a big party at the Montague Mansion the next night, and he had to be there, so he moved up a meeting and had just finished.

He thought Selena would ask for a ride, especially since it was tough to get a cab at this spot, and she didn't have her bag or phone with her.

But after two minutes, with the cars behind honking like mad, she still hadn't said anything. Selena just smiled at him, the kind of polite smile you'd give a big client.

Raymond felt a weird anger bubbling up, not sure why.

"Where do you live?" he asked, his tone icy, his profile radiating a cold vibe.

Selena needed to go to the Fair Mansion to grab a document, but if she went there, Raymond would definitely figure out who she was.

Plus, she was soaked, and getting in his car would just mess it up.

"I live really close by," Selena replied.

A complicated look flashed in Raymond's eyes. This was the first time he offered to drive a woman home, and she politely declined.

Was Selena really playing hard to get, like Alex said, or what?

Raymond opened the car door, and Selena thought he was inviting her in. Just as she was about to make up another excuse, she saw a handle pop out of the car door, a silver handle.

"An umbrella, take it," Raymond said.

Selena quickly took the silver-handled umbrella. "Thank you, Mr. Montague. I'll return it another day."

Raymond noticed that ever since they met, Selena had always been polite but distant.

The car door closed automatically, and he said nothing.

Selena was already drenched, so the umbrella was pretty useless now, but since she had already turned Raymond down once, it would be rude to do it again.

Honestly, she wanted to just ask for $50 for cab fare.

But wouldn't that just show she didn't want to ride in Raymond's car? She was afraid it would totally offend him.

So Selena kept quiet and decided to walk to the Fair Mansion.

It was only a half-hour walk from here, but she was wearing high heels, which made it a bit tricky.

Raymond saw through the rearview mirror that Selena was really walking along the path, and his lips tightened.

Selena walked until her feet started to hurt and finally saw the gate of the Fair Mansion.

The guard at the gate looked flustered when he saw her. "Ms. Fair, why... why are you here?"

"I'm here to get a document for my dad," Selena said as she walked in with the umbrella.

She rang the doorbell of the living room, and after ten minutes, Beatrice came to the door in her pajamas.

"What are you doing here?" Beatrice's tone was very unfriendly, clearly trying to block Selena from entering.

Selena looked past Beatrice and saw that the living room's decor had mostly been changed to Beatrice's style.

A strange smell filled the air, and Selena frowned, saying, "I'm here to get something for my dad. Move aside."

Beatrice pouted and stepped aside with her arms crossed. "Get what you need and leave quickly. You were the one who wanted to leave the Fair Family, so don't come back now."

Selena found it amusing and gave her a once-over.

Beatrice panicked and tightened her pajamas, asking, "What are you looking at? Don't think that just because your dad isn't here, I can't do anything to you!"

Selena couldn't be bothered to argue and went upstairs to the study to get the document.

When she opened the study door, she saw a family photo on the desk.

It only had James, Beatrice, Alice, and Nick.

Selena and Barbara's photos had been put away in a drawer.

Selena glanced at it and, as she reached for the document, caught a whiff of that strange smell again, a bit fishy and a bit sour.
