Chapter 1637 Please, Come Out and Meet Me

"Ann, I'm begging you, please come out and see me." Connie's desperate plea echoed through the phone, occasionally interrupted by Brody's comforting murmurs.

Ann gripped her phone tightly and hung up.

She had made one mistake already; she couldn't afford to make another.

On the other end, Connie's anxiety spiked when she heard the call disconnect.

Brody continued to pat her back reassuringly. "Mrs. White, don't worry. Ann has a soft heart. Let me talk to her a bit more; maybe she'll agree to see you."

Connie gratefully squeezed his hand. "Alright, I'll leave it to you."

"Mrs. White, is Mr. White still at home?"

Connie's face turned awkward at the mention of him. "Yeah, he is. Brody, I need to go back and check on him."

Brody wasn't really interested in her family matters; he was only sticking around because he wanted to sleep with Ann.

The more time he spent with Jessica, the more he realized how amazing Ann was. He was determined to keep a woman like her on the side.

When Connie returned home, she found several empty bottles scattered around.

Her heart sank. Otha loved drinking and keeping mistresses.

In his younger days, Otha had a knack for making quick money through clever schemes.

Now, he was too old to keep up with the latest tech, but his penchant for mistresses hadn't changed. As long as he had some cash, he would flaunt it.

Seeing Connie, Otha's anger flared. "Didn't I tell you to get Ann here? Do you know how humiliated I was at the last party? I won't be satisfied until I have her."

Connie shrank in his presence. "I tried, but she wouldn't come. What can I do?"

"If she won't come, you need to push harder. She cares about you, her mother. If I don't see Ann by tomorrow, I'm divorcing you. I've had enough."

Connie's eyes widened in shock, her resentment towards Ann deepening.

If it weren't for Ann, she wouldn't be living such a miserable life, unable to keep Otha.

It was all because of Ann.

She gritted her teeth as Otha continued scheming. "Doesn't Paul have a sister? If you can't get Ann, bring his sister to me for a night. I can't stand those rich girls who look down on others."

"Alright, alright. As long as you don't divorce me, I'll bring you any woman you want." Connie was completely lost, beyond saving.

She repeatedly called Ann, but Ann had already blocked her and had no intention of responding.

That evening, Sophia noticed Ann was in a bad mood and dragged her out for some shopping. "Ann, I know your mom called. Just ignore her. She's probably up to no good again."

Ann's face was still pale, her stomach aching all day, though it had eased a bit now.

With the awards ceremony just two days away, Sophia had some free time. They were standing outside a luxury handbag store, and Sophia's eyes sparkled. "Ann, that color would look great on you."

"Miss, you have a great eye. This is a new arrival today."

The store clerk hadn't recognized Sophia, who was bundled up from head to toe.

Ann was intrigued and reached out to touch the bag when a woman's voice cut through the air.

"Ann, keep your filthy hands off!"

It was Emily.

Ann frowned as she heard footsteps approaching.

Emily strode up, her mood sour from recent events involving Elara.

She had thought Elara would be her future sister-in-law, but things had taken a turn for the worse.

The online backlash was intense. Emily had wanted to defend Elara but was stopped by her family.

She had been grounded for days and was only let out today, only to run into Ann, whom she considered a harbinger of bad luck.

Emily deliberately stepped forward, shoving Ann aside to grab the purse. "I'll take this. Ring it up."

Sophia fumed beside her. "You!"

Ann held her back, shaking her head. "It's okay."

Sophia knew Emily was from the Adams family, the sister of the man Ann liked, so she swallowed her anger.

Emily smirked, her eyes scanning Ann's outfit. "How many months' salary would it take for you to buy a bag like this? Stop pretending to be rich."
