Chapter 56 Since She's a Thief
Selena tagged along with Henry for another round, and he seemed more and more pleased with her explanations.
Today, Henry was also on the lookout for some business opportunities for Selena.
"Hey, do you know Mr. Walsh from T. Rowe Group? His son, Caterlington, is in the design game too. Heard he's pretty famous and around your age. I'll introduce you two. You guys will have plenty to chat about, right?" Henry said.
Selena was about to decline when Henry added, "Oh, look, there he is. Caterlington, here to check out the art exhibition?"
Following his gaze, Selena spotted Caterlington a few steps away.
Caterlington's face was back to normal. He walked over with a smile, "Mr. Spencer, if I knew you were coming, I would've played tour guide."
Caterlington glanced at Selena, his eyes flashing with a possessive look.
"Mr. Spencer, was it Penny you hired back then?" Caterlington asked.
"Yep, it was her," Henry nodded.
Caterlington walked over to Selena, speaking like they were old pals, ", Penny's snagged two of my orders, including the one with Raymond. Quite the coincidence, huh?"
Selena barely frowned before Henry chimed in, "Young folks have more in common. I've seen all the paintings I was hoping to see today. Caterlington, take good care of Ms. Cooper for me, and be considerate."
The implication was clear: treat Selena like a future girlfriend.
Caterlington smiled, and after Henry left, he toned it down a bit. "How about we grab a meal later?"
Selena thought Caterlington was pretty shameless, not mentioning the earlier incident, clearly wanting to pretend it never happened.
But Selena's gaze fell on Caterlington's crotch, with a hint of casual disdain as she mocked, "Mr. Walsh recovered real quick, huh?"
The words were neutral but could easily be misunderstood.
Caterlington leaned closer, his tone flippant. "Why don't you try and find out?"
Before Selena could respond, a young girl named Emily Adams's voice came from the side. "It's you!"
The voice was full of condescending impatience. Emily crossed her arms, eyeing Selena's outfit, which she deemed utterly cheap.
Not a single recognizable brand, clearly not someone with a background.
"Did you steal my bracelet just now? Hand it over, or I'll call the cops." As Emily spoke, her gaze passed over Selena to look at Caterlington, her eyes flickering. When her gaze returned to Selena, it turned vicious.
Selena frowned. Was this one of Caterlington's admirers?
"What bracelet?" Selena asked.
"Don't play dumb. It's the new bracelet I wore today. Since this morning, you're the only one who's come into contact with me. If it wasn't you, who else could it be? That bracelet is worth three hundred grand. I bet you stole it!" Emily seemed aggressive and relentless.
Selena finally got it; the bracelet was just an excuse. What really bugged Emily was her being close to Caterlington.
"I didn't take your bracelet. If you don't believe me, check the surveillance," Selena retorted, a bit angry.
"Don't try to deny it!" Emily sneered. She had just heard that Mia took first place in school, bumping her out of the award spot, which already made her upset. Now she saw Caterlington interacting with Selena.
Emily continued, "I'm a student at Silver Bay University School of Art. My work is on display here today. The school has the right to protect my interests. If you don't admit it, I'll notify the authorities and have security throw you out!"
Caterlington stood aside, watching Selena get harassed without stepping in. He wanted Selena to feel helpless and come to him for help, so he could easily win her favor by rescuing her.
Caterlington's lips curved into a smile as he stood by and watched.
Caterlington had already recognized Emily as someone from the Adams family. As a member of one of the top four families in Silver Bay City, Emily indeed had enough confidence to trouble Selena.
Emily's gaze wandered around and quickly spotted Samantha, who had tidied herself up.
Samantha's face was heavily powdered to cover the traces of her earlier dishevelment.
Emily waved, "Ms. Stone, you're just in time. This woman stole my bracelet at school. She's not from our school. Shouldn't we kick her out?"
Selena frowned, looking at Samantha, who had changed her clothes, and smiled.
Samantha seemed provoked by this smile, still feeling the lingering smell of toilet water in her nose, her stomach churning again.
She pretended not to know Selena and directly called the security guard standing at the door. "If she's a thief, then hand her over to the police."
