Chapter 1508 When You Two Are Together: A Knife in My Eye
Seeing Mario's reaction, Raymond's suspicion grew. Mario's fingertips slowly pushed away the dagger at his chest.
"If you can't do it, then you'll have to stay here with me," Mario said with a smirk. "Poor Selena is pregnant too. How sad that her child will be born without a father—if it's even born at all, right?" His final words carried a challenge in his eyes, along with something like acceptance.
Raymond's fist connected with Mario's face. No one understood what had gotten into Mario, this sudden madness. He had made a deal with K, but K would never let him go free. And if K launched an indiscriminate attack based on the tracker's location, Mario himself would die too.
It made no sense. Mario had always been obsessed with self-preservation, always scheming to drive Christopher out completely and claim this body for himself. Why was he suddenly so self-destructive?
The punch swelled Mario's cheekbone instantly. He felt the pain but merely probed the inside of his cheek with his tongue. Raymond grabbed him by the collar, his gaze darkening.
"What the hell do you want, Mario?" Raymond demanded.
Was it Selena? No, that couldn't be it. Love was impossible to hide, and Mario's feelings toward Selena weren't pure affection. His gaze when looking at her was complex, conflicted.
Mario didn't respond. His hair had grown slightly too long, falling across his eyes, giving him a sinister appearance.
Raymond took a deep breath and released him. He needed to meet Lawrence and Walter urgently. With those two factions providing support, he would be safe after leaving Mystic Prison. But the tracker in Mario's body remained a ticking time bomb—K could launch an attack at any moment.
The car had been driving for just minutes when a barrage of vehicles appeared ahead, accompanied by the crack of gunfire. Raymond pulled Selena close and swerved in another direction.
It was futile. As long as Mario was with them, their position would be known.
More bullets came, cracking the windshield.
"Raymond," Mario finally spoke, "just throw me out already. With me gone, you and Selena could escape quickly, couldn't you?" His tone suggested they wouldn't be at such a disadvantage without him.
Raymond ignored him. His phone rang—Emilio calling to share a secret passage. This route was known only to the current master of Mystic Prison, a contingency for escape that was never revealed to outsiders. Once there, they would be safe.
But from their current position, the passage was still six feet away. The car's tires had blown out. They would have to abandon it and make their way on foot through the gunfire.
Raymond carried Selena and moved forward without hesitation. After a few moments, he realized the other bodyguards had followed, but Mario remained behind.
Mario stood motionless, his eyes vacant.
"What the hell do you want?" Raymond snapped, his patience gone. What would it take for Mario to cooperate, to take proper care of Christopher's body?
Mario laughed then, a hollow sound.
A sense of foreboding washed over Raymond as Mario asked, "Who am I, Raymond? Tell me, who exactly am I?"
"This isn't the time for your existential crisis," Raymond growled.
Mario turned away, clearly having no intention of following.
"Mario!" Raymond shouted, holding Selena while trying to move toward him.
Mario just gave a bitter laugh. "Let's not meet again. Seeing you two together is like a knife in my eye."
