Chapter 21

Selena was sipping on her lemonade when she heard the news and nearly choked.

She knew the truth, but there was no way she could wreck her own family.

Selena grabbed a napkin and casually wiped the corner of her mouth.

"Yeah, I know. So what?"

Her tone was so nonchalant, like she couldn't care less about Raymond's marriage.

This cool attitude made Raymond, sitting across from her, raise an eyebrow.

Lisa's carefully crafted verbal jab seemed to bounce right off.

So what? What else could it be? Wasn't her hint clear enough?

Selena was really keeping it together. Was she just shameless, or had she already won Raymond over and was now acting all high and mighty?

Lisa felt annoyed but knew she couldn't lose her cool, or she'd lose the upper hand.

Lisa turned to Raymond, her face back to its usual gentle look.

"Raymond, you haven't been back in three years. You probably don't know this place has a new chef. The current chef studied abroad and has a dish that should be right up your alley."

Lisa grabbed the menu without asking, like she owned the place.

Raymond stayed stone-faced, his gaze indifferent, not giving anything away.

Some people seem indifferent but are actually sharp as a tack. Dealing with them can be a real pain.

Was keeping Raymond away from unwanted female attention part of Selena's job?

Selena chuckled, "Chef Bell's best dish isn't on the menu, and today I'm treating Mr. Montague. If you want to treat him too, you can schedule another time."

Her bluntness was so cutting that even Lisa, as shameless as she was, couldn't stick around.

As she stood up, Lisa gave Selena a long, hard look.

Their eyes locked, no words needed, like they'd already had a showdown.

Lisa clutched her bag so tightly she almost crushed it.

Just an insignificant interior designer, yet she dared to be so bold; Selena had definitely left a mark on her.

"I was out of line earlier, Raymond. Let's find another time when you're free."

Raymond frowned. Lisa was usually hard to shake, but today she left in a hurry.

Raymond responded with a cool nod.

After Lisa left, Selena looked up, smiling, "Mr. Montague, do you prefer milk or coffee in the morning?"

Like the little drama just now never happened.

Was she just careless, or did she not care at all that Raymond was already married?

"Coffee," Raymond replied.

Raymond leaned back a bit, his hands naturally crossed in front of him.

"Mr. Montague, you have a stomach condition, right? It's best not to drink coffee on an empty stomach," Selena said this casually, ordered two cups of hot coffee, and then looked up to the waiter, "Excuse me, please tell Bell I'll have the usual, just like before."

The waiter turned around, a bit puzzled, but went to inform Bell anyway.

Raymond frowned, "Are you close with the chef here?"

Selena's cheeks felt hot, maybe from a fever. Her vision seemed blurry, but she patiently replied, "Bell's specialty dishes are like works of art. Mr. Montague should enjoy them."

Raymond got it right away. She genuinely wanted to treat him to a meal but also wanted to see his preferred dishes to get a sense of his tastes in interior design.

Yep, her mind was always on business.

Raymond felt a bit annoyed. He added, "Ms. Cooper works so hard. What does your husband do for a living?"

Selena was caught off guard, lifting her misty eyes to stare at him, her eyes all watery and alluring.

Raymond's gaze deepened, becoming more intense, "A good man shouldn't let his wife work so hard."

Out of nowhere, Raymond brought up her marriage. Selena's lips tightened as she took a sip of water to push down the discomfort rising in her.

How was she supposed to answer that?
