Chapter 1598 Hasn't She Always Been That Kind of Woman?

The police relayed all the information to Paul.

Paul was stunned. Sitting in his position, within his circle, he thought he had seen the worst of human nature.

But someone willing to destroy themselves just to drag their daughter down with them, and in such an extreme way, was a first for him.

He suddenly realized he didn't really know Ann at all.

If the police hadn't told him the truth, he would have believed Ann did it.

In his eyes, she had always been that kind of woman.

But now, his understanding was being turned upside down bit by bit.

When Elara showed up to cause trouble and watched as her puppy was taken away, how devastated must Ann have been?

When she mustered the courage to confront Elara at the Adams Villa, losing her mind and trying to hit Elara, what kind of emotions was she carrying?

When she was slapped by the person she liked and left in disgrace, her world must have collapsed.

Paul had always had a smooth life, except for that one childhood incident that left a shadow. But Ann, her whole life had been in the shadows.

That irritation surged up again. He regretted not calming down last night and properly looking at the evidence she had.

He should have been more patient with her, shouldn't have slapped her.

He felt like that slap shattered something, something he couldn't piece back together no matter how hard he tried.

Paul had never felt this way about any woman before. He thought it was sympathy, pity.

For instance, today he brought a new puppy to see Ann, out of sympathy for her.

In his mind, she should have gratefully accepted it; after all, she liked him so much.

But Ann was too calm.

Paul stood by the window, lighting another cigarette, not knowing how many he had smoked today.

After three more cigarettes, he called Elara.

Elara was hiding at home, too scared to go out, afraid of being laughed at by others in their circle.

The Adams family had cut ties with her, and the news had spread all over Facebook. She was someone who valued her dignity, and now she felt nothing but humiliation, her cheeks burning.

Seeing Paul's call, her eyes lit up instantly. She knew Paul wouldn't give up on her.

"Paul." She cried out, but his cold voice came through.

"Where did you take Tan?"

Elara's throat felt like it was being squeezed; she couldn't move, not knowing how to react.

She even thought she was hearing things. How could someone as high and mighty as Paul care about a dog's life?

The last bit of color drained from her face, and she started trembling all over.

"Why are you asking this? Paul, I really didn't do it."

Paul's eyes turned completely cold. "Elara, do you think I'm an idiot?"

The video was so clear. Her denial now made him think she not only thought he was an idiot but also blind.

Elara's throat hurt even more, especially thinking that Paul might be calling for Ann's sake, making her feel even worse. "Paul, are we still getting married?"

"What do you think?"

"I can change, I really can. I truly love you, and I'm willing to do anything for you. Paul, no one loves you more than I do."

Paul was tired of hearing this nonsense. "Where is Tan?"

Everything Elara wanted to say was blocked by his question. She suddenly felt a surge of anger in her chest, burning her whole body.

She had had enough of the online slander and insults, enough of the sneaky mockery on Facebook.

What did she do wrong? Was it wrong to fight for her own happiness?

It was Ann's fault, that greedy bitch.

"Dead! I threw it to its death!"

Paul's lips tightened, and after a few seconds, he said, "You're unbelievable."

Then he hung up.
