Over the years, Selena never really asked James for money, and James was always too busy to think about it.
After all, he had Beatrice, Alice, and Nick around him.
Selena had her own job, and if it wasn't for that sudden $8 million emergency with Brian's family, she wouldn't have been short on cash.
She didn't expect James to take back the pocket money she asked for in desperation last time.
She sighed, "Dad, take care. I gotta go, got some stuff to handle today."
"Go on. You being here just annoys me. Since you're married, just live your life with Raymond."
Selena just nodded, walked out, and closed the ward door behind her.
At the elevator, she bumped into Alice, who was coming to see James.
Alice didn't look too happy, but when she saw Selena, she seemed a bit surprised.
"Selena!" Alice exclaimed.
Selena thought about what James had just said, knowing Alice must've said something to him.
So she just nodded and asked, "Feeling better?"
"Much better. Selena, did you argue with Dad again? You don't look too good."
Selena didn't want to get into it. "I have work to do, so I'm leaving. Spend some more time with Dad."
Alice's face stiffened, and she obediently said, "Okay."
As soon as Selena left, the smile in Alice's eyes vanished. She raised her eyebrows slightly, feeling a bit annoyed.
She had wanted to get closer to Raymond at the banquet, but Raymond didn't show up.
Alice had been down all night, which led her to the hospital to recuperate again.
She had finally gotten her spirits up and wore the most beautiful dress that night, but she didn't get to see Raymond.
A look of disappointment flashed in her eyes, but she knew she had to be patient; there would be opportunities later.
After getting into the car, Selena felt a headache and immediately contacted the agent to see if she could get a refund for the house she had bought earlier.
But the agent's tone was sincere, saying that the process had already been completed, and it was impossible to get the money back now.
Selena raised her hand to rub her temples, and just then, Erin called.
She sighed and pressed the answer button.
"Selena, I just called your dad. He... it's my fault, I was too impatient."
Selena couldn't bring herself to blame Erin harshly. When Barbara was still alive, she had a good relationship with Brian.
Back then, when James was busy socializing, it was Brian and Erin who took Barbara to the hospital before she gave birth.
The Fair Family wasn't wealthy from the start; they started from small businesses.
But now, James didn't want to stop because he had worked hard for so many years and didn't want his efforts to go to waste.
Selena understood him, but increasingly felt that James was becoming less grateful.
He could casually buy Nick a mansion worth tens of millions of dollars but didn't remember the kindness Brian and Erin had shown him.
Jacob's actions were indeed excessive, but transferring all the hatred to the Layman Family and cutting off contact was unreasonable.
Erin continued, "Selena, I'm really sorry. You said you'd handle it, but that's $8 million. I've never seen that much money in my life. I thought of asking your dad first, but he never really liked us."
Erin's voice was choked up. Over the years, Erin and Brian had been trying to make up for Jacob's mistakes.
In fact, Brian had already repaid the money Jacob had taken long ago.

Selena had her back to the hospital entrance, so she didn't see the people coming in.

Selena took a deep breath. "Erin, no need. I won't get a divorce. My relationship with my husband is very good. Don't listen to those rumors."

"We fell in love freely and love each other very much. Besides, he's really excellent," she added.
After hanging up the phone, Selena saw Raymond standing not far away, with Carter beside him.
Raymond's hand was bleeding from a wound that had probably reopened, so he had come to get it treated.
