Chapter 29

Selena's apology came out so fast, it left everyone stunned.

Talking to Selena always felt like trying to breathe through a straw.

"Mr. Montague, I'll head to the site for an inspection first. I'll go over the design plans with you later. If you're cool with them, I'll get the renovation team started," Selena said.

Raymond nodded, not even glancing her way.

As Selena left the office, a woman with a cup of coffee walked up to her.

Selena stepped aside on purpose. The woman, dressed to the nines with perfect makeup, pretended to trip.

Hot coffee splashed all over Selena's light-colored outfit, leaving a huge stain.

Selena frowned, eyeing the woman's poor acting skills.

The woman raised an eyebrow and covered her mouth in fake surprise.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! Let me get a wet wipe for you," she said, pretending to be apologetic.

Selena glanced at her name tag: Sofia Stone.

Someone from the Stone family?

Sofia probably thought Selena would just brush it off.

But Selena stood her ground, smiling, "Sure, go ahead and get that wet wipe."

Sofia's face froze, like she couldn't believe what she just heard.

Sofia had fetched dark coffee on purpose, knowing it wouldn't clean off easily.

Seeing her plan backfire, Sofia frowned. "A wet wipe probably won't do the trick."

"Then figure something else out, or buy me a new outfit. I've got important work and no time to go home and change," Selena said.

Sofia's expression darkened. Did Selena not get the hint?

People on the top floor noticed Sofia's failure; some were amused, others whispered.

Sofia was a new intern at Montague Group, acting all high and mighty because of her Stone family ties.

Word was, her cousin Olivia was Raymond's first love, and he still had feelings for her. Sofia often dropped Olivia's name to show off.

Sofia sneered, "It's just coffee. I already apologized. Isn't it a bit much to be so pushy? Don't you know the guy you just met is my cousin Olivia's future husband?"

Selena found it funny. From what she knew, the Stone family was just moderately wealthy. Among the big names in Silver Bay City, the Stone family didn't even register.

Selena had seen some info about Raymond and Olivia while going through documents.

They were high school classmates, but no one knew why they got involved, and Selena didn't care to find out.

Still, she kept a smile on her face, though her tone turned icy.

"This isn't about the coffee. Or I could spill it back on you, and we'd call it even. How about that?" Selena said.

Sofia was shaking with anger. No one had ever disrespected her like this at Montague Group.

"You!" Sofia raised her hand to slap Selena.

But Selena caught her hand, squeezing just enough to make Sofia wince.

"Let go of me! Where are the security guards?" Sofia yelled.

Just then, Raymond's office door swung open.

Sofia's eyes lit up, and she yanked her hand away from Selena.

But because Selena had let go when she saw Raymond, Sofia's forceful pull made her lose balance and fall.

Selena looked at Raymond, a bit helpless, as if to say, "This isn't my fault."

Sofia was furious, her chest heaving, and she looked at Raymond with teary eyes.

"Raymond..." Sofia's soft tone made the whole scene feel awkward.

Even in the same social circles, many didn't know Raymond was married, let alone outsiders.

So, to everyone, Raymond was still single.

Since Sofia had just called her cousin Olivia Raymond's fiancée, it seemed the rumors were true. Raymond did like Olivia and had been waiting for her all these years.
