Chapter 1629 Those Tears Are Silent

Calla quietly watched the woman lying on the bed. From the conversations around her, she had already learned how formidable this basement was.

The construction team had worked for a month, but still couldn't figure out the switches here.

She smirked slightly, a bit mockingly. It seemed Manuel had really gone to great lengths to build this cage.

So Octavia had spent her time here until the very moment the slow-acting poison took effect?

Struggling in this confined space, and even having to endure Manuel.

Calla couldn't quite decide who had it worse, herself or Octavia.

The human experiments at the research base were a violation of human ethics. People like her, who were forced into these experiments, couldn't find any meaning in their existence.

She saw Selena clutching Octavia's hand, crying silently. That tear seemed to pierce Calla's heart.

But she couldn't say anything, let alone reveal her identity.

Because she didn't even know who she was anymore.

Selena was helped out of the basement, walking slowly.

The sky outside was blue. Ever since the wall was destroyed by bombs, standing here, one could see the vast ocean in the distance.

The construction team behind them was preparing to blow up the place, to sink it forever.

The fire had spread, thick smoke billowing.

Selena watched from a distance, but the scene suddenly turned into a narrow slit, and then her world went black.

She had fainted.

When she woke up, she was at the Smith Villa.

She looked at the familiar ceiling, curled her fingers, and heard Richard still on the phone.

"What do you mean you've searched everywhere and can't find him?"

"I know it was a magnitude eight earthquake. What are you saying? That Raymond might have been swallowed by a crack in the ground? Neither alive nor dead?"

"I don't care. Keep searching that area. If you can't find him in a month, then search for two months, a year."

Selena heard his voice and felt a headache.

She reached out a hand, wanting to call someone, but her throat was hoarse.

Richard saw her hand reaching out from the bed and immediately hung up. "Selena, that was a call from back home. Ralph and his team have returned with the documents. Stellaria has revoked the warrant for Raymond and even awarded him. Once Raymond is found, you and he can return in glory. Oh, your phone has been ringing constantly. Ann and Shelley have been calling to check on you. I told them you needed rest, and they hung up."

He didn't deliberately hide the situation with Raymond. Selena was too smart; the more he hid, the more worried she would be.

He walked over and sat by the bed. "Don't worry. The earthquake affected a wide area. It's normal not to have found him yet. As soon as there's news, I'll let you know. For now, focus on taking care of yourself. Sometimes, no news is the best news."

Selena lowered her eyes, tugging at her neck. Her throat hurt a bit. "I know. I'm fine. Where are Lawrence and Clifton?"

"Lawrence took the medicine Dr. Griffin developed and is recovering quickly. But the girl we brought out from the base has been following him. He went out to work today and won't be back for a while."

"Work?"

"Did you forget? Most of the Smith family stocks are in your hands. As punishment, he has to work outside to support himself and can't take a job at any big company. I heard he found a cashier job at a convenience store. That girl follows him everywhere and can't speak. I'm worried if he can even support her."

Selena fell silent, remembering the situation.

But she didn't want to plead for Lawrence. He had agreed to this, and with his personality, even if she pleaded, he would still work outside.

She touched her belly. Maybe once the baby was born, she would finally let go of this burden.

"Selena, just focus on taking care of yourself and wait for news."

"Okay."

Raymond hadn't been found yet, so she couldn't focus on anything else. She spent her days looking at the flowers in the garden, unaware of the events unfolding in Silver Bay City.
