Chapter 1460 Paradise for the Rich, Purgatory for the Poor
The air at the scene grew tense. This was Valencia, after all, someone people rarely even saw.
And now he was here at the high school, humbling himself before a stranger?
Selena remained silent, and Valencia signaled to his bodyguard.
The bodyguard immediately shoved Lyle forward.
Lyle fell to the ground, face first, losing all his previous arrogance and looking utterly disheveled.
"Grandpa, are you nuts? You actually tied me up!"
Lyle's face was full of anger. He clearly had no idea what was happening, having been taken straight from the hospital.
No one had explained anything to him on the way, but the faces of the Warner family members were all grim.
He was the only heir of the Warner family. No matter what happened, Valencia would never throw him under the bus.
"Grandpa!"
Lyle shouted again, but Valencia didn't look at him. Instead, he stared seriously at Selena, as if waiting for her judgment.
Before Selena could speak, Ursa, feeling deeply insulted, glared at Selena like a madwoman.
"What are you all standing around for? Grab that bitch!"
Valencia angrily tapped his cane on the ground.
"Shut up! Everyone, shut up! Ms. Fair now holds the most shares in the Warner family company!"
Anyone in the business world knew what that meant.
Holding the most shares meant having the most say. The entire company's fate was in her hands.
If anyone angered her now, she could bring the Warner family to ruin.
Ursa stared in disbelief, thinking she must have misheard. The most shares in the Warner family? How could this pauper have so much money?
"There must be some mistake. How is this possible? How?"
Her face turned pale, and she took a step back when she met Selena's gaze.
Selena helped Emilio up, ignoring everyone else, and asked a nearby student.
"Where's the nurse's office?"
The student's hand trembled as they pointed in a direction.
Though Emilio was dizzy, he heard what Valencia said. He leaned heavily on Selena, looking like he might pass out any second.
"Selena, how much did you spend?"
This was the question on everyone's mind. How much money had she poured in to take over the Warner family company so quickly?
"Just two billion dollars," Selena said nonchalantly. "Pocket change."
The crowd erupted in shock.
The Warner family was only worth five or six hundred million dollars. She hadn't even bought all the shares yet and had already invested two billion. No wonder so many people were willing to sell their shares to her.
Two billion dollars? Pocket change?
Valencia's heart trembled, realizing Lyle had messed with the wrong person this time.
In this place, money was power. With enough money, you could hire assassins and bodyguards. Now, the Warner family had to cater to her.
In such a short time, her status had skyrocketed.
Selena dared to flaunt her wealth here because the rules protected the rich. Even though there were many dangerous people around, everyone had to follow the rules. Otherwise, the authorities from the inner island would make their lives a living hell.
There had been several instances where rich people were killed by the poor, and the poor ended up losing their entire families.
This place was a hell for the poor and a paradise for the rich.
Valencia kicked Lyle, his chest aching with anger.
But it wasn't entirely Lyle's fault. The wealth gap here was so extreme, and the Warner family had always exploited others. Who could have expected someone so wealthy to suddenly appear?
"Ms. Fair, I'm handing Lyle over to you. Do with him as you see fit. The Warner family will also provide protection for you."
Selena said nothing, helping Emilio as they left. The crowd parted to make way for her.
Lyle felt like he was dreaming. He suddenly lunged at her, using his body to try and knock her down.
"Bitch! Die! I don't believe you hold the most shares. Grandpa must be trying to teach me a lesson, staging this whole thing!"
This had happened before. To get him to focus more on the company, Valencia had arranged for people to teach him a lesson.
Selena didn't hold back, kicking him hard.
"Get lost!"
Lyle's teeth shattered, and he fell to the ground.
