Chapter 177 He Should Come to Get You

Raymond was heading to the hospital when Carter called him up.

Carter rambled on for a bit before finally saying, "Raymond, at least she painted for you."

Raymond glanced at the sky; it was almost evening, and the streetlights were flickering on.

The scene outside looked a lot like that painting. Gotta admit, Selena was pretty talented.

The car eventually pulled up near the address Carter had given him. This neighborhood wasn't cheap. Selena had mentioned she was moving, and it looked like she had moved here.

Selena had been waiting downstairs for ten minutes, not wanting to keep Raymond waiting.

But she had soaked in the bath for so long that the water had gone cold. Now, she felt light-headed and a bit out of it.

It wasn't until Raymond's car stopped in front of her that she snapped out of it and weakly opened the car door.

"Mr. Montague, sorry for the trouble," Selena's voice was a bit raspy.

"Are you sick?" Raymond asked calmly, his eyes on her flushed cheeks.

Her cheeks were unusually red, and her eyes were watery.

Selena leaned back in the rear seat, closing her eyes. "Yeah, I'm not feeling great. I'm really sorry about Ms. Montague. The police will sort it out."

Selena must have had a fever; she was burning up.

They were heading to the hospital now, and there was no time to buy any get-well gifts. Plus, she was in Raymond's car, so stopping halfway wasn't an option. She'd have to go empty-handed this time and make up for it later.

The car was super quiet. John was driving up front, honking a few times.

It was rush hour, and the road was packed and congested.

The car was stuck in traffic, barely moving.

Selena closed her eyes, her head spinning, her whole body hot, like she was about to evaporate.

Raymond, sitting not far from her, could feel the heat radiating off her.

Her cheeks were red from the fever.

"Penny?" Raymond frowned, rubbing his brow. Just then, Carter called, "Raymond, Grace said Selena is not feeling well. Don't bring her here."

Carter didn't know Raymond had already picked up Selena, so he kept on, "Let her rest. She must have been scared today."

Raymond was about to respond when Selena's head fell on his shoulder.

The heat from her body seeped through his clothes, reaching him.

The cramped space in the car made him feel her hot breath on his ear.

That breath seemed to seep into his pores, spreading through his body.

Raymond's body stiffened for a moment. After hanging up Carter's call, he asked, "John, is it really bad up ahead?"

"Mr. Montague, it's rush hour. This road is always jammed," John replied.

"Turn back."

John was surprised but didn't argue and turned at the next intersection.

The car circled back to Selena's neighborhood, where a nearby pharmacy stood.

Raymond opened the car door and nudged Selena.

But Selena was too out of it, her vision blurry. "Mr. Montague, are we there?"

She instinctively tried to get out of the car but stumbled and almost fell.

Raymond's brow twitched, and he grabbed her, pulling her back.

The force of the pull made them both lean back against the car.

John had already gotten out, intending to help, but seeing this, he wisely got back in.

Selena realized she had bumped into someone and quickly tried to step back.

"Don't move." Raymond's tone was cold. "This is your neighborhood. You have a fever. Call your husband to come get you."

She was running a fever but still insisted on going out.

Selena raised her head in a daze, her eyes watery. She didn't really get what Raymond was saying but nodded anyway.

Raymond thought she understood and placed her on a nearby bench. "Wait here. He should come to get you."
