Chapter 1514 Leave Selena Behind
If he made another move, the next bullet would find its mark in his body rather than the ground.
Raymond's eyebrows lifted slightly as his gaze swept the distance, but beyond the nearby beach at his feet and the endless expanse of ocean, visibility was near zero. He couldn't pinpoint where the shooters were positioned, though their precision suggested professional snipers—multiple ones, given how accurately they'd bracketed his position.
The thunderous roar of helicopter rotors filled the air, signaling the start of negotiations. Raymond remained motionless as K's voice cut through the mechanical din.
"Leave Selena behind."
This wasn't K's preferred approach. After all the chaos he'd orchestrated at Mystic Prison, his original plan had been to trap both Selena and Raymond there permanently. Tonight had brought too many complications, and he was tired of the cat-and-mouse games that risked further variables. But his partner demanded Selena alive and delivered to him personally.
Having chosen this alliance, K was bound by his commitments. Besides, wherever Selena ended up, her life would be far from pleasant. As for Raymond—tonight would be his last. Raymond's death would serve K's interests perfectly.
With this calculation settled, K stood calmly in the hovering aircraft. The helicopter's thunderous noise had drawn considerable attention, especially following the recent gunfire.
Cradled in Raymond's arms, Selena quickly grasped K's strategy. "Raymond, he wants you to stay here permanently."
"I know." Raymond wasn't naive, and his grip on her tightened protectively.
With her cheek pressed against his chest, Selena continued, "If you hand me over, you're signing your death warrant. He clearly wants me alive, though I can't fathom why." Her gaze swept their surroundings with clinical detachment. "This road ends at the ocean. What do you have left on you?"
After tonight's battle at Mystic Prison, he couldn't be completely empty-handed.
Raymond's lips curved in a grim smile. "Smoke grenades."
Selena's eyebrows rose—perfect timing. "Thirty seconds to reach the cliff edge and jump. Lawrence and Walter's people are stationed nearby. You have signal flares, right?"
The plan was simple: deploy the flare the moment they hit the water, then let Lawrence and Walter handle K while they escaped.
"Yes." Raymond's embrace tightened, hesitation creeping into his voice.
Jumping was their only option, but Selena was pregnant. A fall from this height into the ocean could have devastating consequences. He considered surrendering her first, then using the smoke cover to escape alone.
Reading his thoughts, Selena's expression turned ice-cold. "If you don't take me with you, I'll jump from here right now."
A fall onto the beach below would be instantly fatal. But if Raymond attempted to hand her over, the hidden snipers would open fire the moment she was clear. With nothing left to hold them back, they'd turn the entire area into Swiss cheese—nine lives wouldn't be enough to save him.
Selena's hands locked around his neck with fierce determination, her posture declaring she wouldn't be abandoned. Raymond drew a sharp breath and pulled the pins on multiple smoke grenades, hurling them along the road in rapid succession before sprinting toward the cliff with Selena in his arms.
The dense smoke screen rendered them invisible to the watchers above. K's expression darkened as he barked orders to his pilot. "Find them."
Raymond's heart hammered against his ribs as they reached the precipice. He immediately fired the prearranged signal flare, then dove headfirst into the black ocean below. The dark waters swallowed them instantly, and as Lawrence and Walter's forces spotted the flare, countless helicopters converged on the location, meeting K's aircraft in a deadly aerial confrontation.
