Chapter 258 Selena Thought of the Awkwardness of That Night

Selena rubbed her temples. "I'll talk to your bosses right now. This kind of mistake better not happen again."

The construction manager quickly patted his chest, trying to reassure her.

Losing patience, Selena headed straight to Cornerstone Construction where the president was already on edge after hearing from the foreman.

Since Selena, handpicked by Raymond, had secured them the Ridgefield project, her being upset could put it all at risk.

Sweating bullets, the president vented to his colleague.

"I can't believe that worker messed up like this. If Raymond finds out, our team will look totally unprofessional."

"Sir, that worker's been with us for ages. He had some family issues. We've already given him a severance package and let him go. He feels really bad about it."

At this point, it wasn't about blame. The key was to keep Selena from blowing this up.

As they discussed, a junior manager pouring water overheard, his eyes flickering.

It was Lucas's boss, Mason, known for his flattery and disdain for people without degrees. He often gave Lucas a hard time because of his educational background.

After leaving the room, Mason went back to his office and started calling his contacts, trying to find someone who knew Selena. If he could help fix this, he might get a promotion.

He'd been stuck in his position for three years, always boasting but never getting anywhere.

"Find out who knows Selena and ask them to put in a good word. I'll talk to the president on their behalf. Hurry, she's already on her way here."

Lucas was organizing documents for Mason, a task Mason should've done himself but always dumped on Lucas to make his life difficult.

Lucas cursed Mason in his heart, but his eyes lit up when he heard the name Selena.

Could it be the Selena he knew?

His heart warmed. He never expected she to be so influential, causing headaches for the president of Cornerstone Construction.

Too bad he was just pretending to be her husband and not her real one; otherwise, he could've been living the high life.

If only he had Philip's face.

Lucas cleared his throat. Recently, everyone in the department knew he drove a $500,000 Mercedes, and several female colleagues had shown interest. Lucas took advantage of this and hooked up with one of them. They'd been flirting ever since.

Now, with the $30,000 extra income from Selena and a Mercedes, he could indeed show off a bit in front of the junior staff.

Hearing Mason mention Selena again, he knew this was an opportunity.

"I know her. I can talk to her about this."

Mason's face was full of disdain.

"You? Do you even know what she does? She's Raymond's personal designer. Do you know who Raymond is? The president of the Montague Group, a huge enterprise. He's made a name for himself on Wealth Light Valley Street at a young age. Do you think you, a community college graduate, can get close to someone he values?"

Lucas cursed Mason in his heart, this jerk who always belittled people with their educational background. He'd replace him sooner or later, but he kept a smile on his face.

"I really know her, and we're on good terms. Let me make a call."

Mason didn't believe him at all, thinking he was just bragging.

Lucas sneered inwardly, thinking that once he called Selena, Mason would have to suck up to him.

Lucas really did call Selena.

Selena had saved his number before, with the agreement that he shouldn't contact her unless she called first.

So when she saw the flashing contact, she frowned.

"Lucas?"

To make Mason believe him, Lucas put the call on speaker, so everyone present heard Selena's voice.

"Are you coming to Cornerstone Construction today?"

"Yes."

"Where are you now? Let me come downstairs to get you."

Selena was about to refuse but paused when she saw Raymond's car outside Cornerstone Construction.

The Montague Group had been working with Cornerstone on a major project, and Raymond, serious about his work, had personally visited the Ridgefield site multiple times.

Remembering the awkwardness of that night, Selena felt flustered and didn't refuse Lucas.

"Okay, I'll be there soon."
