Chapter 1615 Becoming the Graveyard of These People
In just three days, they had collected all the numbers except for the one on Zaid's badge.
Calla sorted through the numbers, picking out the useful ones, and realized that the most crucial digits were on Zaid's badge.
Without that badge, there were too many possible combinations for the final three digits, and the lock only allowed one mistake. If they got it wrong twice, they'd be trapped in an even more secure prison.
"Dr. Griffin, let me handle the badge on him," Raymond said calmly, looking at the chaotic array of numbers with a serene expression.
"I'll get it," He assured.
Calla nodded and began fiddling with her stash of medications.
"Honestly, I didn't expect you to gather all the numbers so quickly. I've been working hard for years and only managed to collect five digits. I feel like this time, I might actually get out, and take Number 8 with me," she said, her voice dreamy, still feeling a bit unreal.
Raymond's team had proven to be very effective. If she had been working alone, who knew how many more years it would have taken.
Meanwhile, Zaid had sensed something was off in the central hall recently.
Ever since Manuel's incident, he had felt a growing unease.
Now, he had access to all the medications in the base and could go to places he hadn't been before.
Leaning back, he stared at the ceiling, his eyes dark and brooding.
Atlas walked in at that moment, his eyes lighting up when he saw Zaid.
"Zaid, check this out," He said excitedly, holding a new leaf he had found and was now making into a specimen.
Zaid, already uninterested in collecting leaves and feeling irritated, swatted Atlas's hand away.
Atlas realized he had annoyed Zaid again, his smile fading.
His gaze fell on the badge on Zaid's chest, and he couldn't resist reaching out to touch it.
Zaid immediately grabbed his hand, his eyes full of suspicion. "What are you doing?"
"I just wanted to take a closer look. You've worked so hard to get it, I'm happy for you," Atlas said, though he was really wondering if the badge was more beautiful than the leaves he collected. Why did Zaid prefer this cold object over his leaves?
Feeling embarrassed, Atlas withdrew his hand.
"Atlas, have you noticed anything strange lately?" Zaid asked. He had always been perceptive, and since Manuel's room caught fire, he felt increasingly out of control.
Was the woman who looked like Selena really alone? She didn't seem very skilled. What was the point of coming here alone when she couldn't send out any information? Raymond was too smart to send someone here to die for no reason.
Unless she was just a decoy.
Maybe Raymond himself was already in the research base.
Yes, Jason's situation was critical, and the Smith family needed to find a cure for him, which was only available at the research base.
Raymond wanted to marry Selena, but he had to cure Jason first before considering marriage.
Zaid's hand clenched slowly, feeling a sudden surge of resentment.
He didn't know where this resentment came from, but as long as Selena was happy, he couldn't stand it.
If Raymond was indeed in the research base, Zaid would make sure he didn't leave alive.
A smile curled on his lips. What had seemed boring now felt very interesting.
"Atlas, go outside and see if there are any new test subjects that have entered recently and died quickly."
Atlas was clueless about social nuances, but his dynamic vision was better than most, able to spot subtle differences.
"Okay," Atlas said, getting up and heading out.
Zaid poured himself a cup of coffee. If Raymond was really here, he would turn the research base into a graveyard for them.
