Chapter 1459 The Unfolding Destiny of Life and Death
Selena found it amusing. Anyone else would be running for the hills right now.
After all, he had a tattoo, which meant he was protected for the time being. There were still two months until the exam.
Until he was taken to that place, he was a priority for protection.
"Are you nuts? Go get that wound checked out first."
But he was unusually stubborn, his lips twitching. "I'm not going."
His determination moved Selena. She reached out and patted his head, feeling like she was looking at a younger brother.
The principal chose this moment to speak up.
"Emilio, your injury is serious. Go to the nurse's office. Ms. Fair isn't going anywhere today. You're the only one in five years to have the honor of a tattoo. Do you want to throw away all your hard work?"
He had no parents growing up and had made it this far through sheer willpower. Was he really going to ruin his future for someone he barely knew?
Emilio found the principal's words laughable.
If he hadn't already known that the tattoo wasn't an honor, he might have believed it.
He was like a prized sheep in a pen, just waiting to be dragged away and devoured, bones and all.
Even now, the principal was trying to deceive him with this so-called honor.
He couldn't help but look around at the other students.
Their eyes were filled with envy. Everyone revered the tattoo, working tirelessly to earn it.
But who knew that for over a hundred years, everything they had been told about the tattoo was a colossal lie?
The tattoo wasn't an honor; it was a future fraught with uncertainty.
But Emilio couldn't say any of this.
Even if he did, no one would believe him. They were all too deeply indoctrinated and would think he was crazy, spouting nonsense.
He'd end up in a mental hospital, and there were plenty of those around here.
So he stayed silent, gripping Selena's arm tightly, like a drowning man clutching his last lifeline.
The principal finally had enough and waved his hand, signaling to the four bodyguards nearby.
"Separate Ms. Fair and Emilio, then break Ms. Fair's legs and take her to the Warner mansion."
The four bodyguards moved toward Selena without hesitation.
Emilio quickly stepped forward, trying to shield her.
But he was too weak. He barely took a step before almost collapsing.
The principal grew anxious. "Get him to the nurse's office now! Are you just going to watch him die?"
"I won't go. I want to stay with Ms. Fair, unless you leave her alone."
He had to use the thing he hated most to negotiate.
Would these people spare Selena because of his tattoo?
But the next second, the principal's face hardened.
"Do it!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Emilio was pinned to the ground, the bodyguards ready to drag him to the nurse's office.
Selena chose this moment to speak.
"Principal, are you trying to please the Warner family or offend them?"
"What do you mean?"
"I now control the Warner family. If I dump my shares, the whole family could be ruined. You say you want to take me to them, but have you thought about the fact that they're all searching for me—and some even want to keep me safe?"
The principal laughed, and others joined in.
"Ms. Fair, before we take you to the Warner mansion, it seems we need to send you to a mental hospital first. Apparently, you've brainwashed Emilio as well—he's not thinking straight anymore."
Laughter erupted again, especially from a few prominent teachers.
Selena's smile faded, her eyes growing cold.
The bodyguards moved to act, but a voice from the crowd stopped them, "Stop!"
Everyone turned to see a group of Warner family members, about thirty in total.
Leading them was Valencia, the head of the Warner family, with Lyle in tow, bound with ropes.
Valencia scanned the scene, finally locking eyes with Selena.
He took a deep breath, leaning on his cane.
"Ms. Fair, Lyle has wronged you. I've brought him here. Please, show mercy."
