Chapter 103 Will Penny Change Her Heart?
William still had no clue about the shady stuff Kross had been up to. If he ever found out, he might just wipe out the whole Walsh Family.
And to top it off, Kross had even messed with Selena.
Sweat started to form on Caterlington's forehead. Selena didn't spell it out, but he got the hint—it was a threat.
If he kept pushing back and messed up Raymond's deal, she'd spill the beans to William about Kross trying to assault her.
At that point, the Walsh Family would be in deep trouble.
Caterlington never thought Selena would play dirty like this. He opened his mouth, and after what felt like forever, finally said, "I really underestimated you, Penny."
He had pegged Selena as just a woman with a high opinion of herself, but she had layers he hadn't seen.
Caterlington had heard about Raymond's marriage three years ago but had never met his wife. He didn't expect her to be sitting right in front of him now, and that he and Kross had already pissed her off.
He felt frustrated. All his efforts had led to this mess. He raised his hand to rub his temples but knew better than to keep pushing.
"You've got William backing you, so I wouldn't dare act recklessly. But your husband's right next door, and here you are having a private dinner with me. You've got some nerve," he said.
Only then did Selena dare to take a sip from her wine glass, her lightly colored lips pressing together slightly. "To me, Raymond is just a business associate. Since we signed an agreement to act like strangers, I'm not gonna be the first to break it."
As she spoke, a waiter respectfully knocked on the door and brought in their dishes.
Caterlington had ordered a couple's set meal tonight and even had a beautiful gift box ready.
He had planned to win Selena over tonight, but now he had to scrap that idea.
"Penny, the chef made some special dishes tonight. You saw who showed up next door; this stuff is rare. Let's eat before you head out," he said.
Selena didn't need to argue anymore. Whether Caterlington was a playboy or not had nothing to do with her. He was rich, a CEO, and pretty good-looking. As long as he didn't force people like Kross, she had no reason to care.
The most important matter had been settled, so she relaxed and decided not to waste the good food.
There was a sweet wine that Selena particularly liked, and she couldn't help but drink two more glasses, her eyes narrowing slightly.
Caterlington glanced at Selena a few more times. Raymond was actually indifferent to such a wife and even let her have dinner with another man. Was he impotent?
Caterlington couldn't help but feel a bit of genuine affection for Selena, especially now when she looked so charming and unguarded, making him want to protect her.
"This wine has a strong aftereffect; don't drink too much," he said, immediately regretting it.
It would actually be better if Selena drank a few more glasses. If he couldn't get with her, at least he could enjoy watching her get tipsy, right?
The thought made Caterlington angry. If Raymond really didn't care about Selena, why not just get a divorce?
Despite the table full of delicious food, Caterlington suddenly lost his appetite and kept glancing at Selena.
Just then, the person in charge of the fireworks called to ask when to start, saying everything was ready.
What was the point of setting off fireworks now? Caterlington was fuming but couldn't stop staring at Selena.
Selena was holding her wine glass, looking out the window.
From here, she could see the entire Silver Bay City. Unfortunately, this spot was hard to book, especially since there were only a few private rooms, and they were always in high demand.
People like Raymond often occupied one of these rooms for long periods, making it even harder to snag the others.
Selena couldn't help but think of some past events, a hint of sadness appearing on her face.
Caterlington couldn't stand seeing a beautiful woman sad, so he told the person on the phone, "Now, hurry up."
After all, he had already spent the money. No one was more frustrated than him, spending money to please someone else's wife.
As soon as he finished speaking, half the sky lit up with fireworks.
Although Selena thought Caterlington's methods of pursuing women were very cliché—sending flowers and jewelry—fireworks were something no woman could dislike.
"Mr. Walsh, no wonder you have so many female friends," she said, her voice slightly soft from the wine.
"As long as you like it. If you ever divorce Raymond, my heart will always be open for you."
Whether it was a joke or sincere, Selena found it amusing. Joseph, Caterlington—why did these guys always think other people's wives were better?
In the next room, as the fireworks lit up, the windows were illuminated.
Alex couldn't help but shake his head. "In Silver Bay City, if anyone knows how to spend money to chase women, it's either Carter or Caterlington. This fireworks display probably cost a million dollars."
After saying that, Alex looked at Raymond and asked with a smile, "Do you think that Penny might change her heart?"
