Chapter 1620 Truly Both Crazy and Ruthless
Lawrence froze, his mind racing with images that made his face turn beet red. He awkwardly pushed her away.
He coughed a few times, finally noticing the group of people standing in front of him and the chaotic noise filling the air.
"What's going on now?"
Clifton, seeing the girl's sweet appearance and impressive skills, felt a surge of jealousy. She was also quite forward, which only made it worse.
"Lawrence, you're pretty lucky. You took a few naps, and now we're almost done here."
Lawrence rubbed his temples, about to speak, when the girl's hand slowly wrapped around him from behind, holding him tightly.
He stiffened and stepped aside, but she followed him closely.
Feeling a headache coming on, Lawrence decided to ignore her for the moment and turned to Raymond. "What should we do now?"
Raymond looked at Calla, who had been staring blankly since she first saw Lawrence. She finally snapped out of it.
"The current chaos is likely caused by Zaid. He probably knows you've infiltrated and is trying to flush you out. We can't get his badge now; he's hiding, probably in the control room, the most secure place in the entire research base. If he doesn't open the door, we can't get in. He's likely watching us from there, hoping the test subjects will kill us. Even if they don't, he can still use the base's chemicals against us."
Raymond wasn't surprised, having already suspected that Atlas had given them away.
Zaid, being so cautious, would have immediately realized they had infiltrated.
But Raymond hadn't expected Zaid to go so far as to destroy everything.
He was really crazy and ruthless.
Getting his badge was now impossible.
Just as he was about to ask something, Zaid's voice echoed through the hall. "Found you."
The voice carried a hint of amusement. Zaid's lips curled into a smile, his eyes gleaming with excitement as he watched the screen in front of him.
His voice echoed everywhere.
A minute later, images of Raymond and his group were projected onto the largest screen.
The screen, originally used for the higher-ups to monitor the central hall, now displayed real-time footage of Raymond and his team.
Raymond looked up at the screen.
The cameras were hidden, making it impossible to locate them. Otherwise, he would have destroyed them first.
Zaid's voice came again. "The hide-and-seek game continues. If you kill these people, I'll stop the test subjects. If you want to survive, you'd better try hard."
Atlas, grinning foolishly, chimed in. "Zaid, this seems really fun."
Just like the games he used to play, where only a few could survive.
Raymond and his team had become live targets, and the ground shook slightly.
He turned to Calla, his tone calm. "We can't fight off so many researchers. Even a war of attrition would wear us down. Let's use the explosives."
Calla looked up at the ceiling, her voice hoarse. "Using explosives could cause an earthquake. We might not all survive."
"Dr. Griffin, we have to take a chance. If we don't, we're all dead."
With so many people in the research base, and their faces now displayed on the largest screen, those trapped in fear would believe Zaid and attack them.
With so many toxins around, who knew what they might use.
The best plan was to retreat to the core research room, set off the explosives in different places. If an earthquake occurred, the doors would be destroyed too.
As they made their way back, people kept charging at them, but Clifton and the girl held them off.
Just as they were about to enter the core research room, Clifton was punched and sent flying.
The attacker was Subject 8. All the test subjects, except the girl, had inhaled the rage-inducing gas. Subject 8 couldn't recognize anyone and attacked everything in sight.
He didn't recognize Calla and swung at her.
Raymond quickly pulled Calla behind him, taking a punch to the chest that nearly made him cough up blood.
"Get inside!" He pushed the others into the core research room, staying outside to face the deadly threat alone.
