Chapter 219 Finally Revealing the True Colors
James was shaking like a leaf, practically gasping for air he was so mad!
"How can you talk about them like that!"
Selena took a deep breath and whipped out her phone to call an ambulance.
"Dad, let's hit the hospital for a bit. The company's pretty chill right now, so think of it as a little break."
James glanced at Selena, noticing her messy hair from all the chaos, and felt a pang of regret.
He sighed. "Even if I step back, I need to hand the company over to you to feel at ease. I'm thinking of giving you some shares and letting you take my place for a while. Your work overlaps with Reid's, and you've even made him act against you. Selena, you've got what it takes. If you agree to join the company, I can rest and recover."
Better to hand it over to his daughter than anyone else.
Others might betray him, but he knew his daughter.
She had a strong stance but a soft heart.
She was the last person who'd want anything bad to happen to him.
Selena stayed quiet while Beatrice, standing next to her, was about to blow a fuse.
But she couldn't lose it now, or James would catch on to her plans!
She had just made James suspicious and had to fake being sick to get through it. She couldn't afford to slip up now.
Beatrice's hand clenched so tight her nails dug into her palm.
She thought, 'You bitch, damn it!'
She'd been with James for years and only got ten percent of the shares, and now he wanted to hand the company over to his ex-wife's daughter!
Selena was a bit taken aback, but it made sense when she thought about it.
Nick was another man's son; unless James had lost his mind, he wouldn't hand the company to him.
Alice was so fragile she might end up in the hospital from workplace stress.
Beatrice, though in the company, only had her position because she was James's wife.
With all other options out, Selena was indeed the best fit to take over the company.
But Selena didn't want it. Once Raymond's house design was done, she wanted to open an art studio.
However, Beatrice had already set things up for Nick to join the company, clearly with her own agenda.
"Dad, if you sell your shares now, you'll have plenty of money to enjoy your retirement."
"If you don't join the company, there's nothing to discuss. You can leave."
This time, James seemed serious. He coughed twice and slowly closed his eyes.
The ambulance arrived, and Selena helped him onto the vehicle.
"Dad, take care of yourself. Can we talk about this after I get back from Ridgefield?"
James sighed in relief and slowly nodded.
Beatrice, who had been standing nearby, followed James into the ambulance. As the door closed, she shot a glare at Selena.
Selena stood there, feeling even more uneasy.
Alice's weak voice came from behind her.
"Sis."
Selena felt sick at the sound and walked straight ahead.
"Sis, I didn't do anything with Mr. Montague at the hotel. He was just bringing me medicine. If I had known the medicine was from you, I wouldn't have touched it."
Selena found it amusing and stopped, turning to look at Alice.
"Are you done?"
Alice felt a bit unsure facing her.
She didn't get why, after all her efforts to stir up trouble, Selena stayed unfazed.
"Alice, if you like Raymond, go for him. There's no need to cause drama in front of me. If you really win him over, he'll divorce me and marry you. That would be more effective than your little act."
"Sis, I'm not acting."
Selena had already gotten into her car and was closing the door, rolling down the window.
"Your acting is terrible. No wonder he's not into you if this is your way of seducing him."
One sentence made Alice furious.
"Do you think he would be interested in you?"
Alice's face was now filled with malice, finally showing her true colors.
