Chapter 107 The More She Likes You, The More Indifferent She Acts
Caterlington felt a bit off, so he softened his tone. "Penny, were you scared? How about I take you to the hospital once we're out? You don't look so good. Want me to grab you some medicine?"
Caterlington's concern was genuine, and Selena couldn't brush him off.
After all, they'd hashed things out, and Caterlington wasn't going to target her anymore. Plus, he had to keep her secret.
"Mr. Walsh, I'm fine," Selena replied.
Raymond's vibe got colder, but he stayed quiet.
When the elevator doors opened, Selena stepped out first.
Raymond followed right behind, not even glancing at Caterlington.
Caterlington caught up to Selena. "Look at you, you're pale, and you still say you're fine."
Selena bit her lip, wondering what had gotten into Caterlington.
Raymond, standing nearby, furrowed his brow, thinking it was probably the so-called suspension bridge effect.
Alex quickly patted Raymond on the shoulder. "Man, that scared me. The elevator's been fine for years, and it malfunctions tonight? Let's take the other one."
Alex then looked at Selena. "Ms. Cooper, glad you're okay."
Selena's expression softened, and she nodded. "Thanks for your concern. I'm fine."
The group got into another elevator, and Caterlington, trying to lighten the mood, said, "I've canceled my deal with Reid. He'll probably come back to you."
But Selena was done with Reid. If he found another company and told her why, she wouldn't care.
She knew the business world was all about survival of the fittest.
But Reid not only wanted to use T. Rowe Group but also avoided Selena and kept secrets.
They'd worked together for three years, and only now did she see Reid's true colors.
"I won't be working with Mr. Wright anymore. I'll find other companies," Selena said.
The elevator stopped on the first floor, and Selena, eager to get to the hospital, didn't say much to Caterlington.
She nodded politely to the others and almost ran out of the lobby, got into her car, and sped off.
Caterlington also said goodbye to Raymond before leaving.
In no time, only Raymond and Alex were left. Paul had already been called away by a family emergency.
Alex couldn't help but ask, "You two were alone in an elevator, dim lighting, breathing close, and nothing happened?"
Raymond couldn't help but mock, "You should write scripts."
"Penny hides her feelings deep. The more she likes you, the more indifferent she acts. She probably won't confess until you show your feelings," Alex said.
Raymond stopped, his brows furrowing.
Seeing his doubt, Alex kept going with his theory. "That's why I say she's special. She doesn't want to get hurt, so she won't show her weakness until she senses you're softening. She can give away ten billion dollars without blinking. If she didn't like you, I wouldn't believe it. And you've been cold to her. Any other guy would have held her protectively. Look at Caterlington; he was so worried."
Raymond walked towards his car, not wanting to engage with Alex's words.
Alex thought Raymond didn't believe him and smiled. "You said she's married. Have you seen her husband? If she really had a husband, she wouldn't be out dining with Caterlington. I bet she agreed to meet him because she knew you'd be here tonight. The top floor of Stellar Heights is off-limits to others."
Just then, a woman's voice came from the side. "Mr. Montague."
Alice's face was flushed with nerves, and her hands were tightly clasped in front of her, not daring to look Raymond in the eye.
Raymond frowned, not recognizing Alice.
Alice had always been frail, and excitement made her breathing tremble.
"My... my last name is Fair," she stammered, her voice shaking. "I've been waiting here for you for a long time. I'm here specifically for the Fair Family matter."
After speaking, Alice's gaze fell on his face, her cheeks tinged with a shy blush.
Raymond's gaze lifted, the dazzling light above casting a cold aura on his thinly pressed lips.
