Chapter 19
The room got so quiet you could hear the clock ticking on the wall.
Raymond felt like he might be seeing things again.
Did she just call him honey because she thought he was someone else?
The crystal chandelier cast a soft glow on Selena's face as she went on, "I can't remember what happened that night. I bet you don't either. I just mistook you for my husband. I'm sorry."
They were both adults, and honestly, it was Beatrice who caused all the trouble that night. Raymond shouldn't be blamed or feel responsible for anything.
Right now, work was the priority. No need to stress over whether it was her first time or not.
Selena asked, "If you're interested in my design, just let me know what you need."
The conversation naturally shifted to work, like that night didn't even matter.
Raymond stayed quiet. Just a moment ago in the bathroom, he caught a glimpse of the marks on Selena's semi-transparent clothes that hadn't faded, reminding him of how wild things got that night.
The bruises from that night must've been worse.
She went home like that, and her husband didn't even file for divorce. Did he not care, or was there something wrong with their relationship?
He leaned back, and in a few seconds, his expression was calm and composed again. "I should be the one apologizing if that night messed up your relationship with your husband."
Before he could finish, Selena cut him off, "It won't."
Selena looked straight at Raymond, her eyes serious. "My relationship with my husband is the same as it always has been."
They were strangers before, and they still were now. Nothing had changed.
Raymond had been calm and uninterested in Selena's marriage, but hearing this, a hint of mockery appeared in his eyes. He thought her words were ridiculous.
A man's love, no matter how deep, couldn't tolerate another man in his woman's bed. It was a violation of his territory, a betrayal he wouldn't forgive.
Raymond remembered Selena saying this deal could've earned at least a million dollars. Selena had to work so hard, but what was her husband doing?
Turns out he was a guy who relied on a woman to get by.
Raymond stood up. "Ms. Cooper, you can take on the design for Manston Manor, consider it..."
He paused, his gaze lingering on Selena's rosy lips, "Compensation for that night."
Selena's lips were beautifully shaped, with a slight upward curve in the middle, and when pressed together, a small lip bead would show.
A hint of surprise flashed in Selena's eyes; she didn't expect to actually land the Manston Manor order.
"Alright, Mr. Montague, I won't let you down. If you have any ideas, just let me know," Selena said, not even flinching at the word "compensation" he threw in there.
Raymond frowned, feeling that familiar frustration bubble up again.
Half an hour ago, Selena was all over him, kissing and hugging, but now she was acting all indifferent after sobering up.
For the first time in over twenty years, Raymond realized he might actually be disliked, and it made him super uncomfortable.
As he walked to the door, he heard her ask, "Mr. Montague, what about the money for this outfit?"
"Consider it a gift," Raymond said coldly as he opened the door and left.
The door closed with a decisive click.
Selena's legs went weak, and sweat dotted her forehead.
She walked back to the bathroom and splashed her face with cold water a few times.
She had no idea what kind of drug that jerk Joseph used, but the effects were still lingering. Her body was heating up, feeling unbearably itchy and uncomfortable.
Knowing that Raymond had given her this room and that she couldn't leave like this, she decided to fill the bathtub with cold water again.
The water was freezing, but it was the only solution for now.
Selena took off her clothes, neatly placed them to the side, and sat in the tub, shivering from the cold.
She was exhausted and sleepy, and she fell asleep leaning against the edge of the bathtub.
When she woke up, it was almost seven in the morning.
Selena almost fell when she stepped out of the bathtub.
The drug's effects had worn off, but soaking in the water all night made her dizzy, and her vision was darkening.
She quickly dried herself off and put on the clothes beside her.
Leaning against the wall, she managed to walk out, deciding to go to the hospital first.
Opening the door, she saw a cold figure appear at the door across from her.
Raymond's appearance was too striking, with his perfectly proportionate body, dressed in a tailored black suit, making it hard not to notice him.
Selena quickly called out, "Good morning, Mr. Montague."
Raymond turned his head to glance at her, responding indifferently before walking towards the elevator.
Selena pressed the elevator button and smiled politely, "The cost of last night's outfit and the room must be quite a sum. I've heard the breakfast at this hotel is famous. Do you have time, Mr. Montague? My treat."
Raymond originally wanted to refuse; he had several meetings in the morning.
Noticing Selena's pale face, he frowned.
He looked away, his tone extremely cold. "As you wish."
