Chapter 18
Selena brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, her eyes sparkling. She spoke clearly, with a hint of amusement, and extended her hand. "Mr. Montague, let me reintroduce myself. I'm Penny, an interior designer. The work you're holding is one of my designs."
Raymond stopped in his tracks, thinking he must have misheard.
When he didn't shake her hand, Selena casually pulled it back.
"Mr. Montague, I've tried talking to you a few times before, but you didn't seem interested. I noticed you still have my design; have you changed your mind?" She spoke smoothly, "If so, I think I deserve a chance to make it up to you."
In his twenty-something years, Raymond had never been in a situation like this.
An interior designer?
He glanced at the item in his hand. Sure enough, the photo had a designer's signature and some numbers at the bottom.
She said she was Penny.
Thinking back on their conversations, his frown deepened. So, it was a misunderstanding from the start?
Raymond's expression darkened, and he pinched the photo between his fingers, sitting back on the nearby sofa.
There was a knock on the door, and John's voice came from outside, "Mr. Montague, the ladies' clothing has arrived."
Selena quickly realized it was probably for her.
John was about to knock again when the door opened. Selena, drenched and wrapped in a towel, stood there.
A flash of shock crossed John's eyes. The meeting had just been interrupted, and many people were curious about the woman with Raymond to avoid any future mistakes.
John wasn't entirely sure either; he had only heard gossip that Selena called Raymond honey.
John was momentarily stunned, then quickly handed over the bag, his eyes involuntarily glancing inside. He saw Raymond lounging on the sofa, his suit slightly disheveled, looking like he had just had sex.
John quickly averted his gaze, hearing Selena say, "Thank you."
Then the door closed.
Selena turned to Raymond. "Mr. Montague, please wait a moment."
She went into the adjacent bathroom.
The hotel's bathroom had one frosted glass wall, and with the light on inside, you could clearly see the silhouette.
Raymond leaned back, and with a slight tilt of his head, he saw her seemingly taking off her underwear. His eyes flickered, and he awkwardly looked away.
Selena changed into the new clothes and tossed the towel into the dirty laundry basket before coming out.
John had prepared a set of the latest season's women's casual wear, which made her skin look especially beautiful.
She still held the bank card. "I don't know how much this outfit costs, but the card should have enough. Thank you, Mr. Montague."
Raymond looked up, meeting her gaze, trying to figure out what she was thinking, wondering if she was acting again.
But her straightforward actions and clear intent to keep her distance from him made it obvious she didn't want to get too close.
For some reason, this realization made Raymond feel a bit stifled.
"Sit," he said calmly, "So Carter introduced you to me because of Manston Manor?"
A hint of surprise flashed in Selena's eyes. "What else could it be for?"
Raymond's lips tightened as he recalled Selena saying she had been in this line of work for three years. So, this line of work referred to interior design?
With the misunderstanding cleared, the image of the bloodstain on the sheets that day flashed through his mind. Looking at her now, he felt a strange emotion.
Selena maintained a strictly professional demeanor. "Mr. Montague, the design for Manston Manor."
Before she could finish, he asked, "So, at the Montague's party, was that your first time?"
Selena's heart skipped a beat, worried he might say something about taking responsibility. She quickly retorted, "No."
She smiled, "I forgot to tell you, Mr. Montague, I'm actually married."
