Chapter 1402 Her Goal Achieved
"It's okay, Tessa. You're safe now."
Lawrence cradled her in his arms, gently patting her back, his eyes filled with heartache.
Nestled against him, Tessa felt hatred burning wildly inside her. This was the price of her collaboration with that man—to escalate the situation and force Lawrence to take her side completely.
Now, with her tragic circumstances and Selena's callous refusal to help, Lawrence would surely despise Selena.
Her plan had worked.
Tessa's lips curved into a smile, though she continued to mumble deliriously. After sacrificing so much, she was certain Selena would finally pay.
Sure enough, Cora soon saw the video. Her mind went blank, and she nearly fainted.
She rushed to Jason's room. He had been bedridden for days, looking worse with every day that passed. Now awake, he sat quietly, staring out the window, occasionally coughing.
"Darling, you have to help Tessa. She's suffering terribly..."
Cora sat beside the bed, crying, feeling as if her heart was being crushed.
"We can't be so heartless toward Tessa. After what she's been through, how will she ever move forward? Everyone in Vistalia knows now—she'll never find a husband. I had planned to let her stay elsewhere, become her godmother, and eventually arrange a suitable marriage for her so she'd be provided for."
Cautiously, Cora showed Jason the videos she'd received—one of Selena abandoning Tessa, the other of Tessa's assault.
Her face contorted with anger. "This Selena not only stole the man Tessa loved but has now caused her such misery! It's unconscionable. She must face consequences."
Jason's expression remained cold, though his pupils contracted sharply when he saw what had happened to Tessa.
Despite raising her for over twenty years, and regardless of his resentment toward her, he couldn't bear to see her endure such trauma.
Yet Tessa had caused his biological daughter's death—a transgression he couldn't forgive.
Cora continued, "Darling, leave this to me. I'll ensure justice for Tessa!"
She immediately called Lawrence and asked, "Lawrence, how is Tessa doing?"
Hearing her concern for Tessa brought Lawrence some comfort.
"She's been crying nonstop. Her eyes are swollen. The doctors gave her a sedative, and she's sleeping now."
Cora's heart ached. "I saw the video. With Tessa's heart condition, I'm worried. I should come see her."
"Mom, Tessa doesn't want visitors right now. She's emotionally unstable, and also..."
"What is it?"
"Those men didn't use protection. The doctors aren't sure if she might be... pregnant."
Cora felt dizzy and collapsed."Mom?"
Lawrence heard no response and frowned deeply.
Meanwhile, Richard had just entered the room to find Cora unconscious, startling him.
"Mom!"
He immediately called for a doctor. The diagnosis: emotional shock.
Now there were two patients in the house.
Jason, however, showed no desire to have Cora in the master bedroom, so she was moved to the guest room.
Richard felt utterly exhausted. Entering the master bedroom and seeing how frail Jason looked, he felt a lump in his throat.
"Dad."
Jason leaned back, his voice hoarse. "Have you discovered anything about your sister's situation?"
"Lawrence went to Silver Bay City but returned quickly."
"I knew we couldn't count on him."
"Dad, don't get upset. Focus on recovering."
Richard reached out to help, but Jason pushed his hand away.
Then, to Richard's horror, Jason coughed up blood.
"Dad! I'll call the doctor right away!"
Jason shook his head. Even now, his movements remained deliberate and measured.
He wiped the blood from his lips, his eyes vacant. "I wonder if Octavia is still alive. She must blame me. Our daughter died without us ever meeting her. She looked so much like Octavia, especially those eyes."
Richard had countless questions but remained silent.
