Chapter 204 I Owe You One

When Selena got the message, it felt like a punch to the gut.

She let out a bitter laugh. No wonder Alice was acting so fearless; James had her back.

Two days later, Alice was still on a mission. She'd been camped outside Raymond's hotel room since the crack of dawn, knowing he'd have to head to work on Monday. Yesterday, only his assistant had come and gone.

Just after seven, she spotted Raymond in a sharp black suit, with John, leaving the presidential suite and heading for the elevator. As the doors were about to close, Alice quickly stuck her hand in to stop them.

She'd spent hours on her makeup that morning, waiting for this moment. Remembering their encounter last night, she tried to play it cool, like it was just a coincidence.

"Heading to work too?" Alice asked.

Raymond's face darkened the moment he saw her. He'd never met anyone so shameless.

What on earth had made his grandfather think this woman was classy?

A flash of anger crossed his eyes, and his lips tightened.

The whole elevator ride was dead silent, and Alice, feeling the icy vibe coming off him, didn't dare say a word.

Raymond's presence was so intense, it felt like the air was being squeezed out of the elevator.

Alice's face went pale. She'd planned to get closer to him, but now she couldn't even speak.

It wasn't until Raymond got into his car with that cold expression that Alice, too embarrassed to follow, just watched the car drive away.

Sitting in the car, Raymond's eyebrows twitched in irritation.

As they passed an intersection, he saw a woman walking her dog, and his expression softened a bit.

Selena had gone to Ashbourne Manor early that morning to pick up Max and was now taking him for a walk.

With the business partner issue sorted, she decided to head to Ridgefield tomorrow to deal with the flooring problem. She wasn't sure if she could wrap it up in a month, and she already missed Max just thinking about it.

Selena bent down to pat Max on the head, but Max seemed to have a radar for Raymond. As soon as he sensed Raymond's car, he wagged his tail and ran over.

Selena saw the car too and figured he was probably heading to the office.

"Raymond." she called out, and saw Max standing on his hind legs with his front paws on the open window, sticking his head inside with way too much enthusiasm.

So much enthusiasm it was almost embarrassing.

Blushing, Selena quickly stepped forward to grab the leash.

"Max!"

Why did he get so excited every time he saw Raymond?

Raymond noticed a few dog hairs that had fallen inside the car and frowned slightly.

But he didn't say anything.

It was weird; he was allergic to dog fur, but this white dog always reminded him of the little dog he'd seen at the Montague family.

But that was a bad memory.

"Sorry. I don't know why Max gets so excited every time he sees you."

Raymond ignored the dog fur and asked, "Got the business partner issues sorted?"

"Yeah."

"My aunt hasn't been bothering you again, has she?"

"No, thanks to you. I owe you one. How about I treat you to a meal some other day?"

Raymond's face had been pretty scary when he left the hotel. But after a few words with Selena, he seemed to calm down.

Max barked a few times at the perfect moment, staring at him with bright eyes, like he was urging him to say yes.

A faint smile crossed Raymond's face. "We'll see."
