Emily was just trying to save some face.
After she finished talking, Emily shot a nasty look at Selena. "If that's the case, I'll let it go. She trashed my family, but whatever."
Selena just laughed in response.
Emily's face turned red with anger and embarrassment, her fingers clenching at her sides. 'What's so funny?' she wondered.
Selena stood up and faced her. "Ms. Adams, you were the one who started it. Now that the truth's out, you don't even apologize. Instead, you act like you're being generous by letting it go. Just because you're from the Adams family doesn't mean you get a free pass."
Emily was too mad to speak.
She felt like the air around her was burning. She glanced at Samantha, hoping she'd step in. She couldn't handle this alone.
But Samantha just lowered her head and whispered so only Emily could hear, "Penny's just a mistress. Back at Silver Bay University, she seduced an investor and got caught by his wife, who threw paint all over her. Emily, you're the Adams family heir; you don't need to apologize to her."
Samantha, being thirty-five and more experienced, wasn't as easily swayed as Emily.
Samantha tried to blend into the background, hoping no one would notice her.
But Emily, not the sharpest tool in the shed, lit up at this news.
Emily sneered, "Oh, so you went to Silver Bay University too? And you were a mistress back then? How shameless can you be to show your face here?"
Selena's eyes shifted to Samantha, frowning.
Samantha kept her head down, a cold smile playing on her lips.
As long as she stayed behind Emily, no one would know she was the one stirring the pot.
"Who said I was a mistress?" Selena asked.
"Ms. Stone did. She used to teach here and just got promoted to Department Chair. She recognized you. I thought you had some impressive background, but it turns out you did some pretty disgraceful things back in school." Emily then turned to Albert.
Emily went on, "Mr. Sanchez, who would believe anything this shameless person says? I bet she stole the bracelet. Maybe she snuck into the staff room and took it. We can't let her tarnish Silver Bay University's reputation. We should find out which class she graduated from and revoke her diploma."
Emily's face was full of malicious glee.
Albert felt stuck, wiping sweat from his forehead. He hadn't expected this old scandal to come up.
With Raymond still there, this had to be handled right, or Silver Bay University's reputation would take a hit.
Emily thought Selena would be rattled, but she just looked calmly at Samantha.
"Ms. Stone told Ms. Adams that?"
Samantha's lips went pale, cursing Emily for being such an idiot and exposing her.
Samantha had almost managed to stay hidden, but now she was back in the spotlight.
Her lips twitched as she remembered she was the Department Chair. Why should she fear Selena, who had no power?
If Selena dared to release the video of her drinking toilet water, she'd release the video of Selena and Kross. They could both go down.
With that, Samantha's confidence returned, and she smiled.
"This was my mistake. I shouldn't have shared your private matters with Emily," Samantha said.
It sounded like an apology, but it subtly confirmed Selena was a mistress.
A ripple of disgust swept through the crowd, their gazes hardening as they turned towards Selena. In this circle, besides plagiarism, mistresses were also despised.
Painters and writers had the highest rates of infidelity, claiming to pursue the liberation of the soul while ignoring morals.
Many women at the art exhibition had their families broken by mistresses, so their looks towards Selena turned to ridicule and disdain.
Even Mia looked at Selena in shock, unable to believe she was really a mistress.
