Chapter 173 I've Liked Raymond for Years
The car horn blared twice, and the headlights flicked on.
John leaned back in the car, had a thought, and rolled down the window. "Oh, and Mr. Fair doesn't need to call Mr. Montague anymore. Mr. Montague's not feeling well, and if anything goes wrong, the Fair Family can't handle the fallout."
If his earlier tone was just to show who's boss, now it was a straight-up warning: back off, Fair Family.
James was so mad his mind went blank, and his fingers started to shake.
Alice, standing nearby, quickly stepped up, her face lit with excitement. "Mr. Montague."
Through the window, Alice stared inside with a longing look.
Even though Raymond had been so rude, Alice didn't see it that way. She hoped Raymond would notice her, thinking if she showed up enough, he'd start to like her.
"Mr. Montague, please don't be mad. The Fair Family didn't think things through this time." Alice's voice was soft, and her cheeks were a bit red.
Already looking frail, her current demeanor made her seem even more pitiful.
Raymond frowned. She was part of the Fair Family, yet she didn't care about their embarrassment at all.
James, standing nearby, thought Alice was way too eager about Raymond. His face soured, and he was so angry he couldn't say a word.
Alice wanted to say more but felt someone tugging at her sleeve.
She turned around and saw it was Beatrice, who shook her head slightly.
If Alice said any more, it would only make James angrier.
Alice reluctantly shut her mouth but kept her eyes on the car.
Raymond didn't look at her and said to the front, "Drive."
John nodded and hit the gas.
The car slowly pulled away, leaving the Fair Family standing there.
Beatrice was the first to speak, "Honey, if it weren't for Selena, we wouldn't be so embarrassed. Remember what Catherine said last time? Now Raymond's acting the same way. I think the only one in the Montague family who likes Selena is William."
As Beatrice said this, she looked at Alice.
Alice's cheeks were flushed with excitement, knowing her thoughts had been discovered. But it didn't matter; Beatrice would help her.
Beatrice added, "Honey, we still need to think of a way. Raymond has someone in his heart. Didn't he used to be with Olivia? That girl looks a lot like Alice. If Raymond doesn't like Selena, maybe Alice should give it a shot?"
The purpose of these words was clear: to create an opportunity for Alice.
James's eyes widened in disbelief, seemingly unable to believe Beatrice had said that.
What did she mean? Selena hadn't even divorced yet, and she was already setting up Raymond to cheat?
"What nonsense are you talking about!" James was already angry, and now he felt a pain in his chest. "Until Selena gets divorced, she and Raymond are still together! Don't get any ideas."
After saying that, James stormed into the villa.
Outside, Beatrice glanced at Alice, who clearly hadn't taken James's words to heart and spoke with a pout, "Mom, I've liked Raymond for years. I believe my sincerity can move him, and he doesn't seem to like Olivia. Otherwise, why haven't they gotten back together after all these years? I think he just hasn't met someone he likes. I want to give it a try."
Since Selena wasn't the right fit, she shouldn't hold that spot.
Beatrice had originally planned for Alice to marry Raymond, but since it was Selena who saved William, and Alice was in poor health, she hadn't pushed it.
But now that Alice wanted it, Selena had to step aside. This was what she owed Alice.
Beatrice said, "Alice, be patient. I'll figure something out for you."
Upon hearing this, a glimmer of hope flashed in Alice's eyes, and her cheeks turned even redder, as if she was about to have an interaction with Raymond.
In the car driving away, Raymond looked at the picture Carter had sent on his phone.
He was very familiar with this composition and recognized it at a glance as the photo Selena had taken.
Not only had she taken it, but she had also drawn it.
Carter: [Raymond, I wanted to ask last time, why is Penny bringing you soup and secretly drawing you? Does her husband know?]
A woman being so enthusiastic about a man was not a good sign.
