Chapter 1610 The Desire to See Relatives is Too Strong

Raymond agreed, but he still had questions. "Stellaria's sent a bunch of people over time. Why didn't you let them help you?"

Calla chuckled softly, her eyes suddenly tinged with sadness. "It's not that I didn't think about it, but how many people in this world have Christopher's medical talent? Stellaria did send some of their best, but look at the research base—everyone here is exceptional. They were all geniuses once, but here, they're just regular employees. To make it in this research base, you have to be the best of the best. Over the years, not only Stellaria but other countries have sent people too. None of them left alive."

She had been waiting for another partner to appear, but so far, all those people had died in the experiments.

Christopher managed to leave alive, but there were only three pills back then, just enough for him to escape.

She had told him that if anything happened in the future, he could find her at a place called Mystic Prison.

Manuel must have hidden her body there. She didn't know what that body had gone through, but if its memory wasn't completely damaged, it might help him.

After all, the jellyfish seal was still out there, and BK, the organization, probably didn't have a leader yet.

Manuel, despite being the mastermind behind Mystic Prison, was too arrogant.

Calla rubbed her temples. "We need to hurry. What you did today has already alerted them."

Raymond nodded and immediately grabbed the nearby medication, heading to the central hall.

After he left, Calla took the cigarette from her lips and examined it closely.

She didn't know when she had picked up the habit of smoking.

Something had been stuck in her mind all these years, and it was only when she heard Zaid's conversation that she felt a new surge of strength.

She finally understood what she had lost and what she needed to find.

It was her daughter, whom she had desperately tried to protect. Even if she had become a shadow of her former self, she had to leave this place alive.

Even if it was just to see her for a moment.

She was no longer the person she remembered. Even if they met face to face, her daughter probably wouldn't recognize her.

And that body, long imprisoned, was likely nearing the end of its life.

Calla looked up at the ceiling and lit another cigarette.

The longing to see her family was so intense, it felt like it was clawing its way out of her throat.

She smoked seven or eight cigarettes in a row before she calmed down.

So that was what her daughter looked like grown up. That was what she looked like.

She didn't resemble Calla much, but those eyes were strikingly similar.

Her lips curved into a smile, and she abruptly threw the cigarette away.

From now on, she had to quit smoking.

Raymond stepped outside and saw many people in black uniforms starting to inspect the area.

This chaotic incident had caught the attention of the higher-ups, who were worried that someone might have infiltrated the base.

But the hall hadn't returned to calm, as everyone was horrified to discover that Experiment 8 was missing.

Experiment 8 had always been the most troublesome presence, and now he was gone. Where could he be hiding?

When Raymond heard that Experiment 8 was missing, he immediately knew where the kid had gone.

He must have slipped into the ventilation ducts through the connection port of the test chamber.

There had been a fire, a short circuit, and the surveillance was down for about ten minutes.

He must have taken advantage of those ten minutes to hide.

In the core research room, Calla heard a sound nearby, and soon a head poked in from the door—it was Experiment 8, the one everyone was looking for.

"Dr. Griffin." Experiment 8 spoke, his voice still carrying the innocence of youth.

"Dr. Griffin, is he the one we've been waiting for?"

Experiment 8 was only eighteen years old, and he had been asking this question for five years.

Every time a newcomer arrived at the base, he would ask this question immediately.

But within a few days, all those newcomers would die.

He waited, and finally, Raymond arrived.
