Chapter 44

Raymond was clearly in a great mood.

The vibe at the table got even more tense. Joseph, fuming with embarrassment, finally realized arguing with Selena was a bad idea. Keeping it up would just make him angrier.

Joseph took a deep breath and looked at the dealer. "Deal the cards."

The dealer checked if everyone was ready and started dealing.

A crowd gathered around Selena. Some were there for the drama, others felt bad for her.

Selena, not knowing the chip values, had promised to pay back double. That meant she'd owe Alex two billion dollars later.

And here she was, a newbie, sitting at a no-limit Texas Hold'em table. This kind of game could wipe you out, even seasoned players had to think twice.

The table was full of top-tier billionaires, but no one had seen Selena before.

Selena sat up straight. The two players to her right had already placed the small and big blinds, one million and two million dollars.

It was Selena's turn.

She glanced at her two hole cards, thought for a moment, and folded.

Everyone found her move pretty funny.

Sofia, near Raymond, couldn't hold back and snapped, "If you don't know how to play, don't take up a spot. We don't have time to watch you make a fool of yourself."

Selena frowned and looked at the dealer. "Excuse me, am I not allowed to fold?"

The dealer looked a bit awkward. "You can, but..."

But no community cards had been dealt yet, and Selena folded before even one round of betting. It looked like she didn't want to lose money and couldn't afford to.

If that was the case, why sit there?

Anyone playing no-limit Texas Hold'em had to be loaded. If you weren't, don't join.

The room buzzed with noise and mocking laughs.

The crowd was already a bit annoyed, but Selena stayed cool.

In the second round, she called a bet and lost a million dollars.

In the third round, she called a bet and lost another million.

The fourth round had just started when Joseph sneered, "Losing only a million per round, there's no one as stingy as you at this table."

His words hit home with many onlookers.

"Get off. If you don't know how to play, why bother?"

"If you can't afford to lose, don't embarrass yourself here. Let someone else play!"

"This is boring. Women should stay home and take care of the kids. What are you doing here?"

The chatter got louder.

Even so, in the fourth round, Selena still only called two bets and lost three million dollars.

Joseph was losing the least at the table, while Raymond was losing the most.

But Raymond stayed silent. He glanced at his cards like he was losing paper, not cash.

Raymond's slender, strong fingers held the cards with such perfect knuckles that you couldn't help but stare.

During the break, Selena glanced over again.

When she looked up, her eyes met Raymond's.

She wasn't embarrassed. Instead, she smiled confidently, like she wasn't sneaking a peek.

Raymond lowered his eyes calmly, his hand resting on the chair, his face showing no extra expression.

To Sofia, Selena's actions were disgraceful; in front of so many people, Selena dared to openly flirt with Raymond.

Sofia was eager to see the look on her face when she lost everything.

Amidst the chatter, Selena calmly waited for the fifth round.

Even Alex, sitting at the table, couldn't help but look her way.

Selena seemed unfazed by the pressure. When it was her turn, she glanced at her hole cards.

This time, without hesitation, Selena called four million dollars.

Joseph sneered from the sidelines, mocking, "Wait, did I just see that right? Penny is actually spending this much money?"
