Chapter 8
Selena appeared so open and honest that Raymond couldn't help but wonder if he was just being too gullible.
Raymond stood there, looking all serious and stiff, like a statue with no feelings. It made people too scared to even glance his way.
As the elevator went down, Selena figured she had to give it one more shot for the studio's future.
It wasn't until she started working that she realized her pride didn't mean squat.
Raymond had deep pockets, after all.
"Mr. Montague, I hope you can give it a shot. I'll make sure you're completely satisfied. I'm happy to experiment with different styles until we find the one you love. And if you're not happy, you won't pay a penny."
Raymond couldn't think of the right words to describe Selena.
He was quiet for a moment, then finally said, "Don't you already have a client?"
Selena was a bit taken aback. Was Raymond worried she'd juggle two designs at once?
Sure, some designers do that, but Selena was all about quality.
"Mr. Montague, don't worry. If I take on your project, I won't take any others for a while. If you're interested, can we talk about it for five minutes?" she replied.
"I'm not interested," Raymond said, stepping out first. Selena, helping Matthew, couldn't go after him.
She had no choice but to support Matthew and look for the designated driver.
Even though Matthew was drunk, he kept a respectful distance from her after that initial stumble.
As Selena helped Matthew out of the 54 Club, she saw a car's headlights flash twice. The door opened, and out stepped the pretty Sarah.
Sarah walked over without a word and slapped Selena. "It was you, wasn't it? Always hanging around him at the studio, bringing him coffee late at night? I've had enough of you. What are you trying to do now that my husband is drunk?"
Selena, holding Matthew, couldn't dodge the slap, and her cheek stung.
Sarah was so mad her chest was heaving, and her eyes were red. "I've seen plenty like you, always trying to wreck other people's families. Let me tell you, all of Matthew's money is with me. You won't get a dime by being with him!"
Selena almost laughed out of frustration. She rarely went to the studio, but she knew some girls there liked to cling to Matthew. Maybe some had those intentions, but she wasn't one of them.
Matthew, who she was supporting, seemed to sober up and quickly grabbed Sarah's wrist. "Sarah, calm down."
Sarah, as if a nerve had been struck, angrily shook off Matthew's hand. "How can I calm down! This shameless woman knows you're married but still clings to you, bringing you coffee and belts. I tolerated it, but tonight she called you out on her birthday, and you hid it from me?"
Sarah's fury was overwhelming, and she wanted to tear Selena's face apart. "You look so good, but in the end, you're just a home-wrecking slut!"
Matthew felt a headache coming on and hugged Sarah, turning to Selena with an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, Selena. You should go."
Selena felt pretty unlucky tonight, but Sarah was Matthew's wife. Could she really slap her back?
It wouldn't be right no matter what, so Selena had to suck it up.
In the car not far away, Raymond watched with a blank expression.
From the moment Sarah slapped Selena, he saw everything clearly.
Following Raymond's gaze, John also noticed the drama over there.
Sarah was clearly confident, pointing at Matthew and cursing, while Matthew held her and gently coaxed her. Selena, on the other hand, looked like an outsider.
Selena was so young and beautiful, but she ended up being a mistress.
John felt a bit emotional. Luckily, there weren't many people around. Otherwise, if this scene were posted online, Selena's reputation would be toast.
Raymond coldly looked away and told John, "Drive."
