Chapter 72 Even the Dog Leash Has to Be HERMES

Raymond heard that familiar voice and looked up to see Selena already standing there.

He glanced at the number on the dog tag, and yeah, it did look familiar.

The second Max saw Selena, he jumped up, tail wagging like crazy.

The envelope in her hand was pretty obvious, so she handed it to John instead of Raymond.

"Thanks a lot. Max slipped out when I wasn't looking. I really appreciate it," Selena said, grateful.

John hesitated for a moment when he saw the envelope but took it calmly.

Selena grabbed the leash from him and noticed a HERMES logo near the handle.

This leash was from Hermes? Five hundred bucks probably wouldn't even cover it.

"How much is this leash? I'll pay you back," Selena offered.

In her head, she was grumbling about how rich folks even had fancy leashes for their dogs.

"Ms. Cooper, that's not necessary," John said, looking a bit awkward.

Selena felt like the five hundred bucks was an insult to both Raymond and John.

But since she'd already handed over the money, asking for it back would be even more awkward.

Just then, Raymond closed his laptop and took off his Bluetooth headset.

Selena quickly shortened the leash, worried Max might bother him.

Raymond paused for a second as he walked past her.

Max stuck his tongue out at Raymond, eyes sparkling.

Max seemed to like Raymond, just like Selena did.

Raymond frowned, "Penny?"

Before Selena could respond, Max barked like he was answering.

Raymond chuckled and walked away with big strides.

Selena stood there awkwardly, looking down at Max. "He wasn't talking to you. Why are you so excited?"

She rubbed his head, and Max wagged his tail even more.

Selena had no choice but to call Fiona and tell her Max was found.

Fiona finally felt relieved.

Selena put Max in the passenger seat and drove back to Ashbourne Manor.

When they got home, Fiona checked Max over to make sure he was okay before calming down.

"Ms. Fair, I'll make sure to keep a close eye on him next time," Fiona promised.

"Fiona, Max is too lively. Make sure to keep the front gate closed," Selena replied.

"Okay, I'll be careful," Fiona said.

Selena nodded, but the thought of tomorrow being Barbara's anniversary dampened her spirits and she lost interest in playing with Max. She packed a few clothes and called Brian, saying she'd be heading back to Ridgefield tomorrow.

Brian asked, "Selena, did James say anything about your coming back?"

Selena replied, "Uncle Brian, it wasn't your fault."

Brian sighed, "How could it not be? Anyway, Erin made some sausages. Take a few strings back to James."

"Okay." Selena knew Brian felt guilty, and if she didn't take them, he'd feel even worse, so she agreed.

That evening, Selena revised the plan several times, using the little info she had to finalize the draft.

Then she sent it to Raymond.

If he agreed, they could start the construction drawings right away.

Raymond still hadn't replied, probably swamped with work. Selena had never dealt with a client like this before, so she had to go with her gut.

Early the next morning, Selena packed her stuff into the car, bought a few bottles of good wine at the mall, and got some skincare products for her aunt Erin Layman before heading to Ridgefield.

As Selena was about to exit the highway, she spotted a luxury car ahead.

In a poor town like Ridgefield, seeing a luxury car was a shock.

Selena only glanced at it and didn't bother with the license plate, steadily exiting the highway and driving to Brian's place.

Brian was already waiting downstairs. When he saw Selena, a smile lit up his face, and he came up to greet her.

Selena parked the car and opened the door.

"Uncle Brian, have you been waiting long?" she asked.

Ridgefield was the poorest town in the city. While the center had some tall buildings and malls, Brian still lived in a rundown house.

"Selena, long time no see," Brian greeted.

Selena opened the trunk, took out the gifts she bought, and asked, "Where's Aunt Erin?"

"She's inside cooking. Didn't you say you liked her Roast Chicken? She started prepping it early this morning," Brian responded.

Brian took the things from Selena's hands, and they walked inside together.

Selena thought about the car she saw on the road earlier. "Uncle Brian, has Ridgefield been getting more visitors lately?"

Even though it wasn't a holiday, the traffic had picked up.

With a big smile, Brian said, "Yeah, we're on the brink of development. I've heard the government plans to turn this area into a tourist spot. Investors are already interested. Erin and I are hoping our house gets included in the demolition plans."
