Chapter 1618 Because I Am Bad Too

Atlas didn't hesitate any longer and poured the potion directly into her mouth.

Isolde tried to stop him, but it was useless. She heard Zaid speak up again.

"Isolde, I appreciate all the years you took care of me, but what you did to Atlas is pretty messed up. Then again, I can't really judge you because I'm no better. I wouldn't have become president if Atlas hadn't slept with you. You must really like him, huh?"

Isolde froze, unable to lift her head to look at Atlas. It was as if her deepest secret had been exposed, leaving her feeling utterly humiliated.

Even now, in her current state, her first thought was to hope that Atlas wouldn't look at her. She felt ashamed and ugly.

She had spent years trying to maintain her skin, trying every method possible to keep it looking good.

She kept her head down, silent, realizing that Zaid understood everything. He was like an observer from the sidelines.

"You genuinely like Atlas, but he doesn't understand human emotions, let alone your pitiful affection. You asked him to sleep with you, and he did. You thought you could keep him by your side, even arguing with the higher-ups. You must have a good relationship with someone in the higher-ups, or I wouldn't have been able to get this position."

"The poison was fed to you by Atlas himself. You must be in a lot of pain."

It was more than just pain. Zaid knew how to push someone to the brink of collapse.

He had Atlas feed her the poison, and Atlas's lack of hesitation pierced Isolde deeply.

She had worked hard to protect Atlas, or else with his potential, he would have been used for endless experiments.

No one knew how much she had negotiated behind the scenes.

"Isolde, it's a pity. You used to like Jason, but he never looked at you. Now you like Atlas, but to him, you're no different from a stranger. How sad."

"So what?" Isolde was in immense pain, her head hanging low, not looking at anyone. "What did I do wrong? Why am I sad? I liked Jason, and I almost killed the person he loved. I like Atlas, and I got him to sleep with me, many times. How am I sad? I got what I wanted. I know Atlas doesn't like me; he's just a fool."

Zaid was taken aback by her response, staring at her in surprise.

She kept her head down, even now worrying about her image in Atlas's eyes.

But she also knew clearly that no matter what, Atlas would never remember her.

She laughed bitterly, her shoulders shaking, and because of the poison, she kept coughing up blood.

"I'm not the sad one. The saddest person is you. You don't understand emotions, you've never loved anyone, and you didn't protect your only family. You used to be my lackey, and now you think you're the master? You don't even know what you want in life. You're about to have everything, but you're going to destroy it all. You've always been selfish, never considering Atlas, but he cares about you deeply. You think I'm sad? Look at yourself and Atlas."

Isolde knew she was about to die. The poison she was fed was no ordinary substance; it would make her die in the most undignified way.

She took this moment to say everything she could.

She never looked at Atlas, her voice hoarse as she said, "There's something I've never said before, Atlas. I slept with you because I liked you."

With that, she closed her eyes and collapsed to the ground.

But she didn't die immediately; she still had to struggle for a while.

Yet she made no sound, refusing to let any cries for help or pain escape in front of the person she liked.

She would rather endure it.

Atlas listened to their conversation, but he didn't quite understand.

So he asked, "Zaid, what does it mean to like me?"

After he asked, the room fell silent, except for Isolde's occasional gasps.

Atlas didn't look at Isolde; instead, he walked up to Zaid. "What is liking?"

He asked so earnestly, never once glancing at Isolde.

Zaid didn't respond, as if something had struck him.

He let out a sudden laugh, which grew louder and then turned into a dark expression. "It's the most worthless, boring emotion. Only the most foolish people get caught up in it. You don't need to understand."
