Chapter 260 Mutual Love

Lucas was sweating bullets. He was kicking himself for bragging to the manager about claiming credit early. Then, when he met the president, he tried to impress again and made promises he couldn't keep.

If he messed up this task, things with Mason would get even worse.

"I'm not here for Cornerstone Construction. I got orders from above to gather some info. The president's busy with other important guests and can't see you right now. I volunteered because I know you. Sorry about that."

This time, Lucas sounded more genuine, making his personal motives clear.

He went to the front desk to grab some tea and snacks, trying to show a good attitude.

"After half an hour, when the president's done, I'll take you up."

Since he was Philip's friend and Shelley still had feelings for Philip, Selena couldn't make a scene and just nodded.

Not sure what to talk about with Lucas, she pulled out her laptop to work on the design draft. She needed to remove a column, which would change the lighting, so she kept revising the original design, her brows slightly furrowed.

Lucas didn't dare disturb her and quietly refilled her water when he saw her cup was empty.

Selena got so absorbed in her work that she lost track of time, and half an hour flew by.

Raymond finished his meeting, and the senior execs of Cornerstone Construction and the Montague Group came downstairs. Raymond, leading the way with the president of Cornerstone Construction, immediately noticed Selena by the window, focused on her computer, with Lucas pouring her water.

They seemed to have a good vibe going.

Raymond paused briefly, then kept walking to the main entrance. The president didn't notice his pause but sensed his aura had grown colder.

The president also saw Selena and felt a sudden tightness in his chest. But seeing that Lucas had kept her there and she had stayed in the lobby for so long, he was satisfied.

After respectfully seeing Raymond off, the president wiped the sweat from his forehead and hurried over to Selena.

"Long time no see, long time no see."

Hearing his voice, Selena closed her laptop.

The president gave Lucas an approving look. "You can go back to your department now."

Lucas could hardly hide his sense of accomplishment, knowing that his promotion was secured, given the president's words.

Selena didn't pay attention to the undercurrents between the two and went straight to the top floor.

She proposed three terms in a row, and the president agreed to all of them without any hesitation.

Selena breathed a sigh of relief, not wanting to really fall out with Cornerstone Construction. After all, the construction had already started, and changing the construction team now would mean starting communication from scratch.

"It is indeed our team's fault. To be honest, I was already restless when the construction manager called me. Cornerstone Construction has had a good reputation for years and has never encountered such a situation. We've already let go of the responsible employee and hope this won't affect our future cooperation."

Seeing the president extend his hand and recalling that he didn't delay on the three terms, Selena shook his hand lightly.

"Pleasure working with you."

After chatting for a few more minutes, she got up and left.

The president had his assistant personally see her off, then sat in his leather chair, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and thought, 'First Raymond, then Selena. Both have such strong auras. Having them both here on the same day is exhausting.'

When the assistant returned, he spoke up, "That junior employee today, is he under Mason? Named Lucas? He is smart and capable. Give Mason's position to him. Mason has done nothing but flatter people for years and even let his subordinate show off in front of me this time."

Since the position required a smooth operator, it didn't matter whether it was Mason or Lucas.

When Mason received the dismissal notice from the HR department, he was so angry that his blood pressure rose. In contrast, Lucas was smug. Mason didn't dare to make a scene at Cornerstone Construction, only leaving with a vicious remark.

"You just wait!"

That night, Mason went to drown his sorrows in alcohol. When his friends helped him out, he was still muttering drunkenly.

"Didn't he just get promoted because of some woman? How is he better than me? Lucas, that bastard."

At that moment, Raymond was about to enter the bar with Alex. Alex almost bumped into the drunken man and heard Mason muttering a name, raising an eyebrow.

"Raymond, did I hear that right? Did he say Selena?"
