Chapter 95 Going to Ashbourne Manor
Raymond felt a storm brewing inside, but his face stayed cool and collected. "Yeah, I know."
Catherine, standing nearby, heard him but couldn't argue because of William's condition.
After Raymond left the living room, she hurried after him. "Raymond, are you really going to see James?"
Raymond stopped in his tracks, now standing in the garden of The Montague Villa. William was inside and couldn't hear their conversation.
Raymond looked down slightly, pressing his pale lips together, his features sharp and cold. "No."
Catherine let out a sigh of relief, her tone dripping with disdain. "I saw James earlier, and he looked perfectly fine. He's just trying to stir up trouble now that William's back. Don't fall for it. Their family loves these dirty tricks. If you go see him, you're walking right into their trap."
Using William's poor health was truly despicable.
"Mom, I know," Raymond said coldly.
He was about to leave when Catherine added, "I had your stuff sent to Ashbourne Manor. I'm worried William might suddenly decide to check on you. You know his health, so try not to upset him. If he wants to go to Ashbourne Manor, just go along with it. Selena sleeps in the guest room, far from your master bedroom. I've already warned her, so she won't try anything."
Catherine's tone was full of annoyance when she mentioned the Fair family.
She continued, "Raymond, that Selena is indeed gorgeous. She knows how to seduce men."
Raymond didn't like Selena's personality, but he hadn't heard of her being too close with other men over the years, so he didn't comment on Catherine's words.
Catherine, worried her nagging might annoy Raymond, sighed deeply. "I shouldn't have separated you and Olivia back then. Now that she's back, you two should make the best of it. Ever since Christopher passed away, I've only had you. I just want you to be happy."
Mentioning Christopher made the coldness on Raymond's face crack, but his expression quickly turned indifferent.
He lifted his chin slightly, his voice cold. "If Christopher hadn't died, you wouldn't be paying so much attention to me. Mom, I'm not a substitute for Christopher. If you think you can control me and make me do whatever you want, it's not going to happen."
Catherine's face turned pale, her fingers slowly curling, almost digging into her palms.
Her lips trembled before she spoke, her eyes red. "Raymond, is that really what you think of me? Everything I've done is for your own good."
Raymond's thin lips curled into a cold smile. "If it weren't for your 'good intentions,' Christopher probably wouldn't have had that accident."
Catherine almost fainted, her breath trembling, unable to form a complete sentence.
Raymond didn't want to upset her too much, so he softened his tone. "Go inside. I'm leaving."
With that, Raymond strode away from The Montague Villa.
When he got back to the car, John was already waiting inside. Seeing Raymond's troubled expression in the rearview mirror, he asked, "Mr. Montague, are we heading back to the hotel?"
Raymond had been staying at a hotel recently. He rubbed his temples with his fingertips. "Tomorrow, bring some gifts and visit James in the hospital."
"Is that Mr. William Montague's request?"
"Yes." Raymond nodded.
John said no more and was about to drive to the hotel when Raymond said, "Go to Ashbourne Manor."
William even mentioned Selena during meals. Raymond was worried he might suddenly decide to visit Ashbourne Manor in the morning.
Since he had to put on a show, he had to make sure there were no loose ends.
