Chapter 47
Joseph didn't catch much, but he did hear someone mention a royal flush.
The odds of landing one of those are like one in a million. How lucky would a newbie have to be to pull that off?
But if she didn't have it, why would stingy Selena bet eight billion dollars so confidently?
Unless, in her mind, this hand was unbeatable.
Joseph had already hesitated when he had to put in a billion dollars in the last round.
Now, hearing the chatter around him, he frowned and glanced at Selena.
Selena stayed cool, no expression on her face. She even noticed him looking and turned to him. "Mr. Anderson, it's the final round. Not gonna bet?"
The message was clear: if he folded now, she'd take the whole pot.
Selena was just stating the obvious, but Joseph's mind was racing, thinking she was trying to bait him into betting.
It wasn't that he couldn't afford to lose eight billion dollars, but knowing he'd lose it, he wasn't about to throw more money away.
Joseph casually rotated his wrist, ready to toss his cards.
Selena saw him and chuckled, "I don't have a royal flush, Mr. Anderson. If you fold, don't say I didn't warn you."
"You think I'd fall for that?" Joseph was hesitant at first, but now he tossed his cards even quicker.
The dealer picked up his folded cards and showed them to everyone.
A pair of fives, making three of a kind with the community cards.
After showing Joseph's cards, the dealer took Selena's cards. His smile froze when he saw them.
The crowd got even more curious.
The dealer rubbed his eyes, almost thinking he was seeing things.
"What kind of hand is it? A royal flush, right?" Everyone thought Selena had a royal flush and couldn't wait to see it, except for Raymond.
Raymond twirled a blue and gold chip, his fingers blending with the blue.
Raymond looked indifferent, noticing the dealer had been silent for about a minute.
It was probably the quietest minute in the casino's history, with a tense atmosphere.
After a while, the dealer swallowed, "Ms. Cooper, you won. Please collect your chips."
The dealer, being a pro, quickly recovered and showed Selena's two hole cards to everyone.
A three and a four. Even with the five community cards, it was the smallest hand, not even a pair.
Joseph's breathing got heavy beside her, and he gritted his teeth, "The smallest hand?"
Selena, enjoying the moment, gave him a gentle smile, "Didn't I warn you, Mr. Anderson? Thanks for the game."
At a Texas Hold'em table, this was called a bluff, a move only seasoned players dare to use.
As a newbie, Selena had bet nearly ten billion dollars in one game and scared Joseph's three of a kind with the smallest hand.
It was pure humiliation!
Joseph's face turned ugly. "Penny, are you messing with me?"
Selena looked a bit innocent, neatly arranged the chips, and pushed them all to Alex, "Here you go."
Not a penny more, not a penny less, exactly twenty billion dollars.
When she took Alex's ten billion dollars in chips earlier, she said she'd return double. Alex hadn't taken her seriously, thinking she was just trying to get Raymond's attention with some clumsy tactics.
But now, seeing the neatly stacked twenty billion dollars in chips, he looked at Selena with a complicated expression, then turned to Raymond.
Selena wasn't just bold; she was strikingly beautiful and the designer Raymond had chosen.
Alex was worried. Could she genuinely like Raymond?
