Chapter 84 This would Only Make Raymond Dislike her More
Before she could finish her sentence, John walked in from outside and said to Raymond, "Mr. Montague, the Fair family called. They want to have a meal with you."
Raymond's eyes flickered with a hint of mockery.
They probably heard William was coming back and thought that would be enough to keep him around, huh?
Raymond was beyond fed up with the Fair family.
"Decline it," he said.
John nodded but then hesitated. "Mr. Fair mentioned that Ms. Fair has been looking forward to meeting you. She even learned to cook a few special dishes."
Selena, sitting across from Raymond, tightened her grip on her spoon. She could sense James's eagerness to push her forward to win Raymond's favor.
A look of disappointment and mockery flashed in her eyes.
James's efforts were pointless; this would only make Raymond dislike her more.
Raymond's disgust was clear, and his words were merciless, almost threatening. "Tell the Fair family to stick to the contract and not entertain any other ideas."
John nodded and quietly left.
Raymond turned to Selena. "What were you about to say?"
Selena smiled slightly. "I was going to say, I'm actually full. Mr. Montague, enjoy your meal."
The interruption from the Fair family had killed Raymond's appetite too.
Selena stood up, lowering her gaze without a word.
She wasn't worried about how Raymond saw her. Apart from business dealings, they were strangers with no emotional connection. She was just disappointed with James's words.
It was James who wanted to meet Raymond to get closer to the Montague Group, yet he used Selena as the excuse.
She had never felt James was unfair to her before. Sure, it was because of her that Beatrice wasn't brought back to the Fair Manor right away, but at some point, their father-daughter relationship had changed.
Raymond's voice broke her thoughts. "Someone will come to clean this up. You can leave."
Selena looked up at him. "Okay. Mr. Montague, are you heading back to Silver Bay City the day after tomorrow?"
Raymond replied, "Tomorrow."
The discussions were over, and he was satisfied with the Ridgefield project, especially after seeing the government's sincerity.
Whether a business could thrive locally depended on the level of support from the local government.
With the Montague Group's funds and the local support, the project team would handle all the follow-up development plans.
Selena wanted to ask if Brian's house would be demolished, but she figured that even if it was, all the money would probably end up in Megan's hands.
Raymond noticed her hesitation.
He tapped the keyboard lightly and said, "If you need money, you might want to buy a few houses in the Harmony District."
He almost outright said the area would definitely be demolished.
And the compensation would be substantial.
Brian's house was in the Harmony District, and knowing it would be demolished, she felt a bit relieved.
As for herself, even though she was short on cash, buying houses in the Harmony District with this insider info felt like cheating, and she couldn't do that.
Selena said, "No need. The Harmony District is full of single-story houses, mostly inhabited by elderly folks and middle-aged people who can't afford city homes. If I buy their houses, where will they go? Even if I get the money, I wouldn't feel right."
Raymond's hand paused on the keyboard, and his tone got colder. "Business is about making more money within legal means. Sometimes, information asymmetry is also a resource."
A lot of people make money by exploiting information asymmetry.
Selena smiled, "I get it. Thanks for the advice, Mr. Montague. I didn't mean to criticize you. I just lived there for a while and got to know them well, so I can't do that."
"Alright." Raymond's gaze shifted to the screen, and he put on his Bluetooth headset, looking like he was about to start a meeting. It seemed he had just mentioned it casually.
Selena didn't take it to heart either.
Back in her room, she took a bath and fell asleep.
The next morning, she went to say goodbye to Brian and Erin. Erin brought out some prepared sausages and homemade jam, insisting she take them back.
Selena didn't really like these anymore, but she didn't want them to overthink, so she put everything in the trunk.
Megan sneered from the side, "Selena is so wealthy; why would she care about your handmade stuff? Even if she takes it, she's probably disgusted by how dirty it is. You might as well sell it and make some money."
Selena looked at her coldly, "Shut your mouth if you've got nothing good to say."
Megan immediately got angry and looked at Erin, "Mom, see? I was right. Now she's showing her true colors and yelling at me."
