Chapter 248 She Always Cares About Raymond

Selena walked into the hospital and made her way to the ICU, where Beatrice was already pacing around.

Beatrice didn't notice her right away; she was too busy pestering the doctor. "When's my husband gonna wake up? Can I see him? You gotta do everything you can."

Two nurses stood nearby, clearly exasperated by her persistence.

"We've told you a bunch of times, there's a three-day observation period. Chill out and take a seat."

"I need to see him now."

"Sorry, you can't go in right now. We'll let you know when you can."

Beatrice let out a sigh of relief. As long as she could get in, she planned to pull the plug. She couldn't risk James waking up.

Regret wasn't an option anymore.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Selena approaching. Beatrice stiffened and quickly let go of the nurse's hand.

Selena took a seat in the hallway, waiting quietly for the doctor's update.

Beatrice, on the other hand, was a bundle of nerves, her palms sweaty.

She was worried Selena might catch on, so she avoided looking at her.

Footsteps echoed down the hallway; it was Alice.

Alice spotted Selena, and a flash of hatred crossed her eyes, but she quickly masked it with a look of weakness and pity.

"Mom, how's Dad doing?"

With Alice there, Beatrice felt a bit more at ease.

"I don't know. I'm really scared right now."

If James woke up and called the cops, they were done for.

Alice thought Beatrice was worried about the shares not being fully transferred yet.

"Don't worry. Everything will be fine. Dad will be okay."

After that, Alice turned to the indifferent Selena and called out, "Selena."

Even though their last encounter had been rough, Alice acted like it was all water under the bridge.

It was hard to tell if she was shameless or just had nerves of steel.

Selena didn't respond, just kept her eyes on the ICU.

"Sis, with Dad in such bad shape, isn't Raymond coming to see him?"

As usual, she was always thinking about Raymond.

Selena found it amusing and smirked. "So worried about my husband?"

Alice looked embarrassed for a moment but quickly recovered. "You might see him as your husband, but what about him? To him, you're just a pawn in the Fair family's game. He probably can't stand you."

Since they were already at odds, Alice saw no point in pretending anymore.

Besides, Beatrice was on her side.

"If you can't keep your man, don't blame other women for wanting him."

Selena leaned back, looking completely unfazed.

"Alice, like I said before, if you can get Raymond to divorce me, I'll sign the papers right away. He's already gone to the airport to pick up his first love. Your real competition isn't me."

Let these two women duke it out themselves.

Sure enough, when Alice heard that Olivia was back, her face went pale, like she might faint any second.

Olivia was Raymond's first love, the woman he'd been hung up on for years.

It was because Selena had messed things up between him and Olivia that he'd gone abroad for three years.

Now that Olivia was back, all the other women had to step aside.

Alice looked visibly uneasy.

She was confident she could outdo Selena, but she wasn't so sure about Olivia.

Her fingers curled slightly at her side, her eyes flickering.

She needed to find a way to win over Raymond.

If Selena could get into his bed, she was sure she could too!

Alice was already plotting ways to lure Raymond, completely ignoring James inside.

Time ticked by.

Two hours later, Selena asked the doctor about the situation and decided to leave. But she was still worried and gave the doctor some instructions.

"I'm his daughter. I don't want anyone disturbing him, anyone at all."

The doctor nodded, assuring her that the nurses would keep a close watch.

Selena then headed back to her hotel, planning to grab something to eat first.

Meanwhile, at the Montague Group, it was already 4:10 PM.

Raymond was still in a meeting, but John, standing behind him, kept checking his phone, trying to give him a hint.

At 4:20 PM, Raymond finally said, "Let's wrap it up."

He was the first to leave the conference room, and the executives all breathed a sigh of relief.

They couldn't help but wonder if it was just their imagination, but Raymond seemed to be in a foul mood since he got to the office.
