Chapter 104 You're Jealous?
Compared to Caterlington's private room, this one had a serious business vibe and was reserved for them year-round. Even the decor screamed Raymond's personal style.
This building was owned by the Montague Group, which had a ton of businesses under its belt. Most of the famous buildings in Silver Bay City were theirs.
When Raymond heard about the change of heart, he turned to look out the window, frowning. Would women really go for this?
Alex patted Paul on the shoulder and said, "Paul, you wouldn't believe it, but Penny's into Raymond. Last time at the casino, she dropped ten billion dollars just to impress him. Ten billion, and she didn't even bat an eye."
Raymond frowned and cut him off. "Let's eat."
Alex hit the nail on the head with his comment. "What, a woman who likes you is now being chased by someone else, and you're jealous?"
Alex was pretty impressed with Selena. She was a knockout in Silver Bay City.
Way better than that so-called Olivia from the Stone Family.
Alex continued, "Raymond, if you don't like your wife, why not give Penny a shot? Are you really gonna wait for Olivia to come back? She said she was chasing her dreams, and you both were too immature and stubborn back then."
Paul coughed, signaling Alex to shut up.
Alex realized he had said too much and quickly took a sip from his glass to cover it up.
Just then, Raymond's phone rang, and in the next room, Selena's phone rang too.
Selena glanced at the flashing name and said to Caterlington, "Sorry, I have to take this and might need to leave early. Please keep my relationship with Raymond on the down-low. We're getting a divorce, and it wouldn't be good if too many people knew."
Caterlington wasn't one to gossip, but he was puzzled by Selena's tone, which seemed to show no attachment to Raymond.
It was one thing for Raymond not to like the capable Selena, but why did Selena seem completely indifferent to Raymond?
Even though Caterlington didn't want to admit it, Raymond was top-tier in terms of family background and looks among the men in Silver Bay City.
Selena didn't care about that?
Raymond and Selena were really hard to figure out.
Selena had already left the private room with her phone, and the door to the next room opened at the same time—it was Raymond.
The two exchanged a glance and instinctively pressed the answer button on their phones.
On Selena's end, it was Alice calling, saying that James's condition had suddenly taken a turn for the worse and he was back in the emergency room.
Selena frowned. Wasn't his condition stable before?
"Selena, Raymond's assistant just came by and brought some things. I don't know what he said, but Dad seemed a bit agitated," Alice said on the other end of the line.
Selena's face darkened, and she pressed the elevator button.
Raymond also entered the elevator, as an urgent online meeting had come up, and he needed to get back to the Montague Group.
Now, the two were in the same elevator.
Raymond caught a faint whiff of alcohol on Selena. She was probably feeling it now, her cheeks slightly flushed.
Selena turned to him and asked, "Mr. Montague, are you also heading to the first floor?"
Raymond nodded, standing straight. His handsome face showed no warmth, his eyes were cold, and his posture was upright and aloof.
Selena actually wanted to know if James's sudden condition change was really because Raymond's assistant, John, had said something out of line. But Raymond himself shouldn't be as harsh as Catherine, maybe just a reminder.
Selena began to wonder if she had done something recently in the Montague Family that had upset Raymond, causing him to send John personally, even not sparing James while he was hospitalized.
Selena's expression was indifferent. She was already mentally exhausted from this marriage.
The phone rang again, and it was still Alice calling.
Just as Selena was about to answer, the elevator shook a few times. Before she could react, the elevator plunged into darkness.
Her phone fell to the ground, and she quickly bent down to pick it up, but in the darkness, her hand touched a piece of cold fabric.
"Don't move." Raymond's voice was no longer so cold. He pulled Selena over, holding onto the elevator handrail, and quickly pressed all the buttons below.
This was the right move in an elevator emergency. After all, they were on a high floor, and a fall could be fatal.
Selena stopped moving, her muscles tense, clearly a bit scared.
Raymond's actions were instinctive, and it was only now that he realized how close they were.
The cool scent from Selena's body kept wafting into his nose, and in the dark, her nervous breathing created an ambiguous atmosphere on the edge of life and death.
