Chapter 1384 You Are Really Cruel
"Raymond," Selena said softly, "though my time with Barbara was brief, she gave me all the love I missed in my childhood. She was a wise woman who loved me deeply. If she knew how I was being mistreated, she wouldn't stand for it."
"Whenever my grandparents hit me, she was always the first to protect me. When other children bullied me, she confronted their parents without hesitation. She always did everything in her power to keep me safe. If BK was truly connected to her, they should have treated her chosen heir with respect."
Selena looked directly at Raymond, her voice calm. "I felt no reverence there whatsoever. So I've realized something—Barbara was indeed connected to BK, but since she chose to live under an alias in Ridgefield, perhaps she escaped from BK. Victor's desire to bring me back and install me as leader suggests his position is precarious. He needs something crucial."
"What's that?"
"The Jellyfish Seal."
As Selena mentioned it, her eyelashes trembled slightly, her voice growing hoarse.
"I found it in Ridgefield—something Barbara had hidden. If BK had truly been at her disposal, such a powerful organization would have been a tremendous asset. She wouldn't have lived in hardship in Ridgefield, regardless of who her enemies were. Most likely, BK was already beyond her control, so she took the most important thing with her. After my uncle's family died, those people were searching for the Jellyfish Seal. Whoever possesses it is BK's true leader."
After thoroughly destroying the compound, Selena and Raymond flew back together.
When they reached the seventh floor, they fell into a passionate kiss.
Breathless, Raymond cradled her face. "I think I understand BK's situation now. Any organization eventually faces division, and BK is no exception. Some supported your mother, but more backed Victor's faction. Your mother fled with the seal, and even if Victor wanted to take control, he'd face resistance from the old guard. That's why he found you—Barbara's chosen heir, likely in possession of the Jellyfish Seal. If you followed Victor, it wouldn't matter whether he officially held the position. He'd only need to control you."
"He trained you, elevated you, earned your gratitude and respect. Without doing anything obvious, he could silence the old guard."
Selena nodded as he pressed her onto the bed.
But she raised a hand to stop him. "No, your wound hasn't healed yet."
Raymond was sweating with restraint, especially after the adrenaline of their mission. Back in their room, he wanted her more than ever—wanted to love her, to ensure they'd never be apart.
"Selena..."
But she had already risen to straighten her clothes.
It was nearly six in the morning, dawn breaking outside.
Raymond felt deflated, frustrated enough to consider taking care of himself, but even after lying there breathing heavily for several minutes, he found no release.
When Selena returned from washing up, she could still feel his resentment.
She ignored it—until his wound healed completely, this matter was non-negotiable.
Raymond gave up, collapsing back onto the bed. "You're heartless."
Selena examined the address Christopher had written down, her eyes intense with focus.
"Christopher was rescued by a woman—a hypnotist skilled enough to make him forget painful memories. To hypnotize someone like Christopher would require skills at least comparable to Victor's. Victor once told me Barbara was also a hypnotist. I wonder if it could be the same person."
Raymond lay on the bed looking utterly miserable, not responding.
After begging all night without any satisfaction, his sullenness was understandable.
Selena called out, "Raymond?"
With his chest still aching and feeling thoroughly rejected, Raymond rolled over, presenting the back of his head to her in silent protest.
