Chapter 358 You Set Him UP
Selena received a notification from the hospital that Nick had fallen into a coma.
The doc was calling up everyone on Nick's contact list, one by one.
When Selena showed up at the hospital, Beatrice was already there, bawling her eyes out.
She was clutching Nick's phone, and when she saw Selena's messages, her eyes were full of hate. "You bitch! Did you set him up? You murderer, I'm calling the cops on you!"
Beatrice stormed over, ready to slap Selena.
But Selena grabbed her wrist and shoved her away without a second thought. "Did the test results come back? I just wanted to talk business with him. You know the Fair family company’s been struggling. What's wrong with me messaging him? Besides, he was the one chasing after me. You know what he was up to, right?"
But Beatrice couldn't handle Nick being in a coma and lunged at Selena.
Selena stumbled back, hitting the wall hard, her chest aching and making her want to puke.
Beatrice started swinging and kicking. "Bitch! I'll kill you! I'll kill you, believe it or not!"
With Kenny missing and Nick in a coma, Beatrice finally lost it.
Selena couldn't dodge Beatrice's attacks, and soon her right hand was scratched and bleeding.
Beatrice even tried to gouge out her eyes. "Go to hell!"
A few nurses rushed over to break them up but couldn't.
One nurse yelled, "Security! Get security up here!"
After a bit, two big security guards showed up and finally pulled Beatrice away. But Selena's hand was already a bloody mess.
Beatrice's nails were covered in blood.
She glared at Selena with pure hatred, even trying to kick her. "Bitch! I should've strangled you back then.You jinx."
Selena looked at her hand. Those nail scratches hurt worse than knife cuts and were more likely to get infected.
Beatrice was still losing it when a nurse shouted from down the hall. "James is awake! Quick! Come over, he's awake."
Hearing this, Selena forgot about the pain in her hand and arm and rushed to James's room.
Beatrice froze at the news.
Selena quickly entered the room and saw James had indeed opened his eyes, looking a lot better this time.
The nurse carefully removed the tubes from him.
James had lost a lot of weight and looked at Selena with some confusion.
"Selena." His voice was low, like it was coming from deep in his chest, since he hadn't spoken in so long.
Selena's eyes welled up, and she grabbed his hand. "Dad, you've been out for a while. How do you feel? What exactly has happened?"
James coughed a couple of times but couldn't piece together the fragments in his mind, just feeling a burning anger in his chest.
He didn't answer and kept coughing.
The doctor chimed in, "He's been through a lot, both physically and mentally. I suggest not asking too many questions right now and letting him rest."
Selena nodded, just glad he was awake.
James really couldn't remember why he was in the hospital. "I've been here so long, the company's probably in a mess. Has Paddy called?"
Selena looked down. "You should rest for now."
James was worried about the company and quickly asked, "Where's my phone?"
Selena knew she couldn't convince him otherwise. "Paddy passed away."
Shock flashed in James's eyes, and his coughing got worse. "How? He was always healthy."
"The police said it was alcohol poisoning."
"Paddy quit drinking ages ago."
"Dad, we can't dig into this anymore. The police closed the case."
Hearing that Paddy, his long-time friend, had died, James tried to get out of bed, but Selena held him down.
"Dad, you need to stay here."
James slapped her hand away, hitting her wound.
She winced in pain.
James then noticed the blood on her hand. "What happened?"
Before he could finish, Beatrice walked in.
She had heard their conversation outside. James had actually forgotten why he was in the hospital!
Beatrice's face lit up with glee, and she started crying and complaining to him.
