Chapter 214 Are You a Good Husband
"Selena, get in the car. Just sitting here like this, what kind of behavior is that?"
Selena didn't want to argue anymore. No matter what she said, it was like talking to a wall.
She got up and slid into the car, and James took the chance to apologize.
"Last night was on me. I didn't think Reid would pull something like that."
Selena smirked. "That's it? Dad, Beatrice said some pretty nasty stuff. Don't you think she owes me an apology?"
James's face tightened with discomfort.
"She just fainted. The doctor said she's super stressed. You two already don't get along. If I make her apologize, it might just make things worse."
Selena closed her eyes and stayed silent.
James knew Beatrice had crossed a line, so he pulled out a card from his bag.
"There's ten million on this card. Take it, spend it. Don't worry about saving for us."
Selena ignored it, acting like she didn't even hear him.
James felt awkward. He'd already apologized. What more did she want?
Did she really expect Beatrice, an elder, to apologize?
"Selena, sometimes you're just too stubborn."
Selena opened her eyes and looked out the window.
"Stop the car. I just remembered my car's still outside. I need to drive it back. I have to go to Ridgefield tomorrow."
"What are you going to Ridgefield for? Are you gonna contact your uncle again? Didn't I tell you to stay away from them!"
James was so mad his chest was shaking, and he put the card back.
"You're always opposing me. I guess you don't want this money either."
The car had already stopped. Selena opened the door and got out without a word, closing the door behind her.
"Selena!" James called out, coughing a few times.
Hearing his cough, Selena paused and softened her tone.
"I'm just going for work, Dad. Take care of yourself."
After that, she walked back to her own car.
She was exhausted.
She barely managed to drive back to Rose Garden, but when she saw the trash piled up at the door and the ink splattered on it, her face darkened.
It had to be that woman who ordered someone to do this, trying to force her to reveal Jacob's whereabouts.
She didn't expect the other party to go to the police station and still not give up.
Dealing with such people was the worst because they didn't necessarily break the law, and she could only condemn them morally.
But a woman who cheated on her husband with another married man had no morals to speak of.
She could only avoid.
Selena couldn't stand it any longer and immediately listed the house for sale online.
With Lillian and a female thug, staying here would only bring her more trouble.
But the house wouldn't sell quickly, so she had no choice but to return to Ashbourne Manor.
She slept until seven in the evening when Fiona came knocking.
"Selena, it's time to come down for dinner."
Selena was indeed a bit hungry. As soon as she opened the door, she heard voices coming from the living room downstairs.
Fiona's eyes lit up, and she smiled.
"It must be Raymond."
Before she finished speaking, she heard not only Raymond's voice but also William's.
Raymond's voice was cold and emotionless.
"Grandpa, why are you here?"
Selena felt a headache coming on and retreated into her room.
"Fiona, just tell them I have a fever, a really bad fever. I won't be coming down for dinner tonight."
"But Selena..."
Before she could finish, the door closed in front of her.
Downstairs, William, leaning on his cane, looked at Raymond in disappointment.
"Why am I here? Of course, I'm here to see how you and Selena are getting along. Are you being a good husband? Letting an outsider bully her! If I didn't come to see for myself, would you continue to fool me?"
Raymond's face darkened, and he grew impatient.
Seeing Fiona come down, William asked, "Where's Selena?"
"She is not feeling well. So she's lying in bed."
William immediately rolled his eyes at Raymond. "Come with me!"
