Chapter 156 Meeting Again
When Reid tried calling again, he realized he’d been blocked.
“Damn it, Selena!” he muttered under his breath.
He thought dealing with Selena would be a piece of cake, but things had gone off the rails, and now the cops had dirt on him.
If he couldn’t smooth things over with Selena and the police went ahead with their investigation, Reid would be exposed, and his company’s reputation would be toast.
Reid was baffled. Selena seemed like such a pushover, so how did she manage to get those two kidnappers to the police?
He still had no clue who was backing Selena up, and he blamed himself for underestimating her, which landed him in this mess.
“Bitch!” Reid spat, but he knew he needed Selena to sign a settlement agreement willingly, or he’d be in deep trouble.
Reid rushed out, determined to find Selena.
Selena, on the other hand, had no plans to get tangled up in this mess any longer and decided to let the police handle it. She wasn’t interested in any private settlements.
As she walked out of the hospital, she unexpectedly bumped into Grace again.
Selena almost instinctively tried to hide her cheek.
The last time she saw Grace at the hospital, it was just as awkward. She had a slap mark on her face then, too. Now, with another slap mark, who knew what Grace would think.
But despite Selena’s urge to turn away and pretend she hadn’t seen Grace, Grace spotted her right away.
“Penny?” Grace called out.
It was just like last time.
Since Grace had already called her name, there was no point in hiding. Selena decided to face her.
Grace’s eyes landed on her cheek.
The slap mark was too obvious to miss.
Grace, being well-mannered, knew not to be too blunt about someone’s injuries, but this was Carter’s girlfriend; she couldn’t just ignore it.
Plus, Grace could tell Selena was pretty independent and not used to asking for help.
Carter was really something, letting his own girlfriend get treated like this.
“Ms. Montague,” Selena greeted her respectfully, but Grace gently reached out and touched her cheek.
“What happened this time? Does it hurt?” Grace asked warmly.
The sudden kindness left Selena a bit flustered.
Selena could handle people’s malice, but she didn’t know what to do with Grace’s kindness.
After all, she had deceived Grace, and in her eyes, Grace probably still thought Selena was Carter’s girlfriend.
“I’m fine,” Selena said.
But Grace held her hand and softened her tone. “Since you’re with Carter, you need to talk things over with him and not carry everything on your own.”
The last time she ran into Selena at the hospital, Grace thought Carter had hit her, but Selena had said it was her family.
This time, it was probably her family again. Carter might be a jerk, but he wouldn’t hit a girl.
“Penny, if you need any legal help, just let me know,” Grace said.
Selena opened her mouth, wanting to clear up her relationship with Carter, but looking at Grace’s gentle eyes, she couldn’t bring herself to explain.
The best time to explain had long passed.
“Penny, you’re a good kid. I really like you and don’t want to see you get hurt again. If your family is hitting you, that’s on them. Let me talk to them; maybe it will help,” Grace comforted.
When Grace said this, she wasn’t condescending at all. In fact, she was very cautious, afraid of inadvertently hurting Selena’s feelings.
