Chapter 74 Fate Had Bound them Together
Han was checking out that car for the first time too and couldn't help but show off, "Selena, did you see that ride? I heard it's worth millions. The guy who showed up tonight is loaded. My boss had a few drinks with him. He mentioned the white wall looked a bit bare, and that's when I thought of you. These investors are picky, and folks who drive cars like that might have a temper. But don't sweat it."
Selena could hear the envy in Han's voice and smiled, "I'll head in now, Han. You can go back."
Harmony Garden was the top spot to stay in Ridgefield, built to five-star hotel standards. It wasn't open to the public, only hosting businessmen investing in Ridgefield.
It was Selena's first time here too.
The courtyard was super elegant, with rockeries, fountains, and various pavilions. You could tell every piece of wood was chosen with care.
The reception staff, hearing that Selena was there to paint, quickly led her to her room.
The staff said, "The paints are ready. Do you want to check out the site now?"
It was clear the employer was a bit anxious. Selena put her stuff down and nodded, "Lead the way."
When she got there, she saw the white wall was in the most prominent spot, visible to almost everyone passing by.
About 10 feet long, reflecting the elegant surroundings, for those who love details, this blank space did seem a bit plain.
Selena checked out the paints they had. Not as good as what she was used to, but still decent.
Selena said, "I'll start painting soon."
The person next to her wanted to remind Selena to be careful but held back, remembering she was from Silver Bay University’s Art School.
Selena sat on a nearby chair, carefully observing while also forming an idea in her mind.
An oil painting style would be best here, with colors transitioning from light to dark. The elements shouldn't be messy, or it would look cluttered.
With an idea in mind, she bent down to mix the paints and got ready to start.
Back in the reception room, Raymond rubbed his temples. Tonight, the attendees were several local business leaders, many of whom were older. It was clear they genuinely wanted to do something for Ridgefield, unlike the scheming between companies in Silver Bay City, which allowed him to relax and sip a bit more.
Raymond didn't like alcohol during negotiations, but tonight was an exception.
John saw Raymond rubbing his temples and thought he had a headache. "Want me to get some hangover medicine?"
Raymond took off his tie and unbuttoned the top button of his shirt, the alcohol smell fading a bit.
He sat on the sofa, his side profile handsome and sharp, with deep-set brows and a high nose bridge. He waved off John's words. "No need. I'll go for a walk later. You can rest."
John nodded. "Ridgefield doesn't have any big factories, so the air quality is pretty good. Maybe the government saw this and decided to develop it into a tourist area."
John folded Raymond's suit jacket and handed it to the waiting servant outside.
The cool night breeze was nice. Raymond glanced out the window and stepped outside.
Selena had already finished the surrounding outlines and figured out the general composition of the painting, only to realize it was completely dark.
She was painting a fishing scene, with few elements. The river, mountains, and a lonely fisherman complemented each other, neither overshadowing the surrounding scenery nor being too plain.
Noticing that the paint palette was dirty, Selena decided to wash it at a nearby faucet and change the water.
It was ten o'clock at night, and there were hardly any people around. She quickened her pace while carrying her things, but as she lowered her head to organize her art supplies, she unexpectedly walked straight into an embrace that faintly smelled of alcohol.
The unused black paint in her hand spilled all over the white shirt and also on Selena herself.
Raymond looked down at his paint-splattered shirt, clearly no longer wearable, and his brows furrowed, his deep eyes showing a cold chill.
He then realized the person who bumped into him looked familiar. When Selena looked up, their eyes met.
Seeing Raymond, Selena seemed even more shocked, her eyelids twitching, almost dropping what she was holding.
Selena exclaimed, "Mr. Montague, what are you doing here?"
