Chapter 1386 Selena Loves Me Too Much

Everyone quickly lowered their heads and resumed eating.

Only Helen raised a glass of wine apologetically. "Raymond, I'm so sorry."

This morning's breakfast was meant to be a formal introduction for Selena to the inner circle. No one expected such drama.

Raymond sighed softly. "It's not your fault."

Helen wanted to comfort him—having a woman throw juice in your face in front of your employees must be humiliating.

But Raymond surprised her by adding, "It's just that Selena loves me too much. She can't stand the thought of me getting hurt."

An awkward silence fell over the table.

Helen gripped her wine glass tightly and took a deep breath. "I never pegged you as the type to fall head over heels."

Raymond, wiping the last of the juice from his face, simply said, "I don't mind at all."

With that, he hurried after Selena.

Secretly, he felt relieved. Even after her emotional breakdown, Selena remained on edge. After witnessing him collapse before her, anything could trigger her anxiety. Raymond had anticipated these consequences when making his decision.

His heart ached for her, and he felt somewhat lost. Love made you walk on eggshells like that.

Still, her anger was healthier than bottling everything up.

As Raymond turned the corner, he spotted Mario—the last person he wanted to see.

He was already annoyed, and now even more so.

Looking around, he finally saw Selena sitting by a window not far away.

He quickly grabbed a fruit platter from the kitchen, planning to smooth things over.

Before he could reach her, he saw Mario already standing beside Selena, who was browsing the bookshelf. When she couldn't reach a book, Mario stepped behind her and handed it to her.

Wasn't this straight out of a romantic drama? The meet-cute scene between leads? And with Mario wearing the face of her first love!

Raymond's anger flared instantly. He strode over and shoved Mario aside.

Mario stumbled, his expression darkening. "Weren't you supposed to be dying from your wound? How are you still so strong?"

Raymond wanted nothing more than to smash the fruit platter in his face. He'd risked treason bringing Mario to Vistalia, not so the man could cause him grief.

Suddenly inspired, Raymond clutched his chest and coughed dramatically.

Selena had been determined to ignore him while still angry, but hearing his cough made her freeze.

Raymond had been recovering, and his wound wasn't fully healed. His face paled noticeably from the coughing.

Almost instinctively, she set down her book and lifted his shirt to check the wound.

"Where does it hurt?" she asked with concern.

Raymond set the fruit platter aside and pulled her onto the sofa by the bookshelf.

He replied, "My wound—it's both itchy and painful."

Mario stood ignored, his brow furrowing. "Stop the act. It's your eyes that hurt, right? Seeing Selena's first love here is driving you crazy with jealousy."

Raymond smirked, taking Selena's hand. "Selena, if only I'd met you sooner. Some people deliberately created misunderstandings between us. Remember how he caused you so much pain? I would never force you like that. If we'd met earlier, you wouldn't have been deceived."

He was referring to when Mario had a doctor create marks on Selena's body to cause misunderstandings between her and Raymond—something that had caused Selena significant pain and made Raymond want to destroy him.

Sure enough, Selena's brow furrowed as she looked coldly at Mario.

Mario tensed, feeling a sharp pain in his chest—surely Christopher's emotions breaking through.

He pressed his lips together and walked away.

Raymond was thrilled. He promptly lay down with his head in her lap.

His act of vulnerability melted away her anger. She gently ran her fingers through his hair.

Even knowing he was faking, she couldn't help but soften. She'd always known Raymond had a special talent for melting her heart.

Meanwhile, when Victor learned about the explosion, he thought he'd misheard.

He'd already scrambled Selena's memories of the route to that place, so how had Raymond's people found it?

His fingers drummed slowly on the table until Atlas finally asked, "Could Selena have remembered?"

"Impossible. For her to be awakened, she'd have to nearly die, and Raymond would never allow that. I let her go back to break her obsession with seeing Raymond. Once she saw him, she'd find life with him mundane and want to return to me. She'd become even more obedient than before."

So what had happened?

Victor's expression grew grave with concern.
