Chapter 108 Are You Stalking Me?
Alice was getting more and more jittery.
She'd seen Raymond once, ages ago. He was in a crowd, eyes slightly squinted under those long brows, chatting with someone. His suit was perfect, making him look all high and mighty.
Now, here she was, standing in front of him for the first time, shaking like a leaf.
She'd been crushing on him for over three years.
She first saw his name in some financial papers.
Then, by some twist of fate, Raymond ended up as her brother-in-law. But that didn’t matter; he and Selena were bound to split up eventually.
Raymond glanced at her and then looked away. "What do you want?"
Alice's face turned red, and she fidgeted with her hands. "I just heard you were here, so I thought..."
Raymond's face turned icy. "Are you stalking me?"
The way Alice looked at him made it pretty obvious.
Raymond frowned and took a step closer. "I've already told your dad. Don't do anything stupid."
He clearly thought Alice was Selena.
Alice stood there, pale, but then a bit of happiness crept in.
Raymond didn’t seem to like Selena at all. If he did, he wouldn’t treat the Fair family like this.
So, even if he had hooked up with Selena, he didn’t care about her.
Alice lowered her eyes, her breath shaky, heart aching with jealousy. The guy she’d loved for so long had been with Selena. But it didn’t matter; she still had a shot.
Raymond got into the car, and Alex followed, shaking his head. "Was that the one from the Fair family you married?"
It made sense they’d think that; Alice showing up like that was too much of a coincidence, and she hadn’t explained herself.
Raymond frowned again, remembering William’s words about Selena being "elegant, dignified, cold, and proud," and he snorted.
How had Selena fooled William? Someone so useless still got praised.
Alex raised an eyebrow and spoke up. "She’s nothing like Olivia. No wonder you want nothing to do with her."
Alice’s ambition was clear, and her eyes were full of love for Raymond. Even after being ignored for three years, she was still all in.
Was it true love, or was she after Raymond’s money?
Probably both, but the love wasn’t pure, and her tactics were clumsy.
Raymond’s eyes grew colder; he wanted nothing to do with the Fair family.
When Selena got to the hospital, James was still in the ER.
Doctors were rushing around, never stopping.
Beatrice, Nick, and Alice were nowhere to be seen.
Selena sat quietly in the hallway, listening to the clock tick. She didn’t know how long she’d been there, long enough for her legs to go numb, when someone tapped her.
"Are you a family member of the patient?" A doctor asked her.
Selena snapped out of it and saw it was already midday. Her stomach growled.
She quickly stood up. "Yes, I am."
In the ward, James was awake.
Selena felt a bit guilty; she’d actually dozed off in the hallway.
"Dad." She quickly sat by his bed.
James still had an IV in and looked exhausted. "Where’s Beatrice?"
Selena shook her head; she had no idea where Beatrice, Nick, and Alice were.
James coughed, and just then, his secretary came in with some documents. "Mr. Fair, here are the papers you asked for."
James’s secretary, Kenny Collins, was in his forties and had been with James from the start.
Seeing James still working, Selena couldn’t help but say, "Dad, maybe you should rest a bit..."
Before she could finish, James cut her off, "If you were more capable, I wouldn’t have to work so hard. Raymond’s assistant told me to make sure my daughter behaves."
James paused, a hint of suspicion in his voice.
"Selena, did you get too close to a male colleague, making Raymond misunderstand?"
