Chapter 1444 The Smiling Devil

Selena was intrigued by the comment and slowly turned her head.

Clifton met her gaze, raising an eyebrow with a smirk. "Richard said you guys are heading to Mystic Prison?"

She nodded. This was the address Christopher had given her, and she had been digging into it, but the information was scarce.

Clifton held a piece of paper between his fingers, exuding a laid-back confidence.

"I know a bit about it. Might be useful."

Selena's eyes lit up. "Thanks."

"No need to thank me. You're Lawrence's sister, so you're like family to me too."

He smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners, just as Richard had described him—a smiling devil.

She didn't respond to that, instead focusing intently on the clues listed on the paper.

Clifton's information was indeed helpful, providing several leads she couldn't find online.

Selena handed the paper to Raymond, who exchanged a look with Clifton.

It was clear they knew each other but were pretending not to.

It seemed they had crossed paths in Vistalia, and it was obvious they weren't friends.

"Raymond?" Selena called out.

Raymond didn't say anything, just pulled her closer.

As they were about to leave, "Nolan," who was hanging on the wall, slowly lifted his head. He first looked at Raymond, then at Christopher.

"Test subjects, test subjects, all test subjects."

"Test subjects. Successful. Discarded. Test subjects."

The atmosphere turned eerie with those words.

Mario suddenly snapped. "Shut up!"

His head was pounding!

Voices echoed in his mind, and fleeting images flashed, but he couldn't grasp them. Damn it, he couldn't.

Ignoring everyone else, he leaned against the wall and walked out, as if staying there was unbearable.

Everyone's eyes turned to Raymond.

Raymond blinked and chuckled. "Why are you all looking at me?"

Selena frowned, her grip on him tightening.

Raymond raised his hand and ruffled her hair. "Just ramblings. Let's rest for a day and then head to Mystic Prison. We'll take Mario with us."

Selena, still uneasy, nodded.

Raymond held her close as they reached the door, and the imposter spoke again:

"He escaped. He escaped. They all escaped. Both of them escaped."

"I want to escape too. So badly."

His words sent chills down their spines. Richard couldn't hold back and punched him in the face.

"Shut up already!"

The imposter looked up, staring blankly at Raymond's retreating figure, seemingly numb to the pain.

Raymond led Selena to the car, where a weak-looking Mario was already in the back seat.

Selena gazed out the window, her mind restless.

Raymond reached over and took her hand. "Don't worry. Maybe I just look like Christopher."

She lowered her gaze. "I've been hypnotized by K before. I know what it's like. These two aren't just hypnotized; they must have undergone human experiments. If only we knew what those experiments were."

Mario chimed in from the back seat. "Blame Christopher for that. He knew but said nothing. He deserves to die!"

He lay back, his head throbbing, reaching up to the ceiling, his wrist covered in needle marks.

He had called out Christopher's name countless times in his mind, but it was as if Christopher had vanished.

A sudden fear gripped him, the fear that Christopher might really be gone.

Why? Was it too much to handle, seeing others who were also test subjects?

He had no idea.
